I have a a vSphere 6 environment with SRM and vSphere replication 6.0 appliances configured.  I have followed the instruction to the mark to the best of my knowledge.  I have configured the Replication appliances with additional separate NICs dedicated to replication alone.  These separate NICs are on their own dedicated VLAN and subnet and both appliances can ping each others replication NICs (across sites).  I have been assured there are absolutely no firewalls in the way or ports blocked.  Despite this I am encountering the following problem after configuring a VM for replication on the target site .... VM appears to be replicating with progress bar for the initial sync however eventually I get the below error at the recovery site (despite seeing a 100% progress bar completing)... TestVM Configuration error: Replication "TestVM" on the source site has been force-stopped After further examination of the datastore contents at the recovery site, I see the VM directory and stub files however the actual file sizes are 2-3KB where as the "Provisioned Size" is correct 27GB any idea's ? Thanks in advance System Information Vendor: VMware, Inc. Appliance Name: vSphere Replication Appliance Appliance Version: 6.1.1.14190 Build 4595498
Thanks those were my thoughts exactly, are you aware of any official best practice documents advising to specifically enable DRS for Citrix.

Hi All, Just a quick question, I'm fairly sure I stumbled across a Citrix document a while back (which I can no longer find).   It was effectively a white paper selling the benefits of choosing to place Citrix on vSphere.  Specifically one of those benefits was utilizing DRS in conjunction with Citrix Desktop.  In out environment for some unknown reasons a decision was taken at some point to disable DRS for mysterious unknown reasons.  A quote that I keep overhearing is "we don't want Citrix load balancing to be fighting/interfering with VMware" personally I'm not convinced this will cause any issues, but I could be mistaken. Two questions really, has anyone ever heard of a good reasons to disable DRS in conjunction with Citrix Desktop?  Additionally does anyone have a link to any documentation supporting the benefits of having it enabled or supporting it being enabled.  Thanks in advance, I haven't had much exposure with Citrix other than Xenserver really.

Hi All, I'm hoping to build a comprehensive report on the exact tools version installed on all the VM's in our environment.  Unfortunately however what I have found so far seems to come up with blanks for the specific tools version installed.  Been using the below so far...  Get-VM | Select Name, Version, ToolsVersion, ToolsVersionStatus | Export-Csv -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture -Path C:\Reports\VMHWandToolsInfo.csv any idea's or does anyone have a tried and trusted script?   We also have the latest version of vRealize Operations Manager in the environment but I only seem to be able to report on if tools is installed or not.

Anyone know of a good method of making perfect image/backup's of your ESXi bootable USB build?  Anyone have any good experiences with a particular bit of software?  I know ESXi is easy to install etc but I have a lot of custom configurations in my lab environment (installing customs VIBs etc) and on a number of occasions the USB stick has died necessitating a rebuild.  Would be nice if I could just take a image of the entire stick ready to apply to a replacement if needed. Thanks in advance

Hi guys thanks in advance as always I have a little issue I'm hoping someone can assist with.  One of my VM's became corrupt so I tried to recover it from the LUN backup on my Sysnology, I did the following... On the Synology... -     disabled all other targets (to reduce confusion) -     created a new target associated with my newly recovered LUN On the ESXi host (singular) -     re-scanned and confirmed it picked up the only 200GB iSCSI device present, all was well I thought But for the life of my I cant get it to auto mount the datastore and allow me to browse for the VM, any tricks I'm missing?  Any tips?  Anything I can do it putty to force it to load up the datastore so I can browse the data?  Tried refreshing everything, re scanning, rebooting, restarting management agents, restarting the synology no joy
vSphere Backups, any idea if a backup file taken from a 5.5 host will be valid when applied to a 6.0 host

Silly question... potentially?  I have just rebuilt a cluster however the root password isn't great and I want to reset them to something secure and complex.  Can this be done however in a way that the VC is aware and connection isn't lost?  I know how to do it on a host directly however cant see how you do it from within the web interface via the VC.

So I thought I would take a look at OpenStack in my lab prior to any kind of POC at work. I have however failed at the first hurdle miserably .  After having deployed the OVM I decided to go through the configuration wizard however at the "Configure management networking" it fails during the network verification with "Failed to validate the IP address" and I have no clue why because I don't actually know specifics of what its trying to verify exactly? Is it expecting to find a DHCP server on that network range?  I have tried all sorts of ranges and combinations without success If its expecting a DHCP server on a segregated network I suppose I can spin up a PFsense box or similar, or have a I completely miss-understood how it works and does it do all the networking for me?

Anyone know of a PowerCLI script or free tool to quickly identify oversize VM's ? even a finger in the air guess.   I know many of you will immediately point me in the direction of VCOPs (which is great) we have it else where.  However this VC infrastructure is hosted by a third party and we are trying to get away from them.  Ultimately we don't really want to continue to pay exorbitant sums for what is fundamentally a very poorly managed infrastructure. I just need a quick and dirty list of VM's based on a rough 30 day Memory average, any help/advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.         .

Currently its different, i.e the single host is using a completely different gateway.  I'm trying to figure out what would be a worse case scenario under these conditions
Hmm, The company also only has a single datastore configured for heartbeat, I'm wondering if this further increases the chances of HA not working?

Hi All, I have justed started working at rather messy and neglected environment and there strong suspicions that it's filled with powered on yet dormant VMs.  Is there by chance a script that can analyze disk activity and network traffic and effectively come up with a list of least active VMs? I can't imagine I am the first person to be in this situation so would rather not have to re-invent the wheel.
