Hi   Thank you for the reply. we are having two independent vmware environments. one is vsphere 5.5 and the other is vsphere 6.0. In vsphere 5.5 we have a separate cluster for XenApp environment which is having 8 hosts managed by vCenter 5.5. we want to migrate all VM's from XenApp cluster to new XenApp Cluster having 12 hosts on vSphere 6.0 managed by vCenter 6.0.  We donot have choice to upgrade vsphere 5.5 to 6.0, due to some internal limitations.  We have common storage between XenApp cluster (vsphere 5.5) and  New XenApp cluster (vsphere 6.0) and both environment is running on same subnet.
Hi,    I am looking for help on migrating the XenApp environment from vSphere 5.5 to vSphere 6.0 with live migration there is no common storage. Is there any procedure to do live migration? ... See more...

Hi   I have a situation, that I want move the VM from esxi6.0 to esxi5.5 host and the vCenter is 6.0. When I am trying to migrate VM (H/W version is 10) from esxi 5.5 to esxi 6.0, I am able to see the esxi 6.0 and esxi 5.5 hosts under webclient-->migrate-->change both compute and storage resource --> select compute resource. There is no shared storage between esxi 5.5 and 6.0. But when I am trying to migrate the VM from esxi 6.0 to esxi 5.5 , I am not able to view the esxi 5.5 host under webclient-->migrate-->change compute resource only / change both compute and storage resource --> select compute resource (no error message is displayed). If I use legacy client and tried to migrate the VM from esxi 6.0 to esxi 5.5, I am unable to migrate back the VM due to their is not shared storage. So is there a procedure or steps that, VM can migrate back from esxi 6.0 to esxi 5.5 host? Thank you in-advance for your help.

Hi   Thank you for the reply. in my case, the VDS version is 5.5, even the same error for VDS version 6.0.    I hope from vCenter 6 onwards we can migrate from VSS to VDS or VDS to VDS, VSS to VSS.. etc.    Even i tired to migrate from VSS on ESXi5.5 host to VSS on ESXi6.0 host  under vCenter 6.0, i am seeing same error...     If the above statement is correct, then i think, i donot need an uplink from host 2 to VDS. Please correct me, if i am wrong.

I have a vCenter version is 6.0, a EVC enable cluster is created with two hosts and the details as below:-   host 1 is Power edge M620 with Processor type CPU E5-26600@2.20GHz installed with ESXi6.0, connected to ESX6-VDS switch(distributed switch) and   host 2 is UCS B200-M3 with processor type CPU E5-26800@2.70GHz, running on ESXi5.5 hooked up to ESX5-VSS(standard switch).    I have VM residing on host 2 connected to VM portgroup on VSS (ESX5-VSS) I enabled the EVC mode with "Intel® "Sandy Bridge" Generation". Goal:- is to migrate live VM from host 2(esxi5.5) to host 1.(esxi6.0), including vm network migrating from VSS to VDS with out taking downtime Issue:- option1:- While migrating the VM, from host 2 to host 1, i choose "change compute resource only"--> in the Hosts section, i didn't see the host 1 information, just host 2 is displayed (screen shot:- img1). option2:- If i choose the change both compute resource and storage-->select compute resource first and select the host1, in the compatibility section, "compatibility checks succeeded". but when i choose the source network from VSS to destination network VDS I am getting error "Changing the network and host of a virtual machine during vMotion is not supported on the "source" host "host2".(screen shot:- img2). Any steps towards problem resolving will be appreciate. Thank you in-advance for your time and support.

Hi Thank you for reply.   I have few questions as below:-   1:- Can you 'borrow' an uplink from your VDS (if you have redundant uplinks)?      Yes, i can borrow uplink from VDS. But is there any option with out creating VSS on host1/host2?   2:- Is the vMotion network the same between the clusters?     Yes, it is same vlan. 3:- If a uplink is borrowed from VDS, do i have to create vm portgroup or vmkernel portgroup on any temp VDS/VSS?

The hosts 1(four nics),2(four nics) are part of VDS1 (vsphere distributed switch)and hots 3(four nics),4(four nics) are part of VDS2(vsphere distributed switch). Each hosts is having 4 nics all nics are mapped to VDS(vsphere distributed switch) as uplinks. I am looking help for 1:-how to migrate the VM's from one VDS1(hosts1,2) to VDS2(hosts3,4)as the hosts connected to different VDS. 2:- As i tried to migrate the VM's from one VDS1 to another, as the hosts are not part of the same VDS, the VM's are unable to move.  How to connect the hosts1,2 to VDS2 and hosts3,4 to VDS1.? Hi    I have a environment:- Two vcenter 5.5 and 6.0. I want to migrate the vm's from 5.5 to 6.0 with out taking any downtime.    question1:- Could we leverage the vmotion across vcenter option between 5.5 and 6.0 ?  (no common storage but they are on same subnet)    question2:-  Incase if moved few esxi hosts from vcenter 5.5 and added to vcenter 6.0.? (no common storage but they are on same subnet)                     * vds is implemented on vcenter 5.5 and vcenter 6.0, do the same dvportgroup should be available on both vcenter5.5 and vcenter6.0. in order to move esxi hosts from vcenter 5.5 to vcenter 6.0?   question3:- In vcenter6.0 we can migrate vm from any vds to vds. so if i moving esxi5.5 hosts from vcenter 5.5 (dvswitch01)to vcenter 6.0(dvswitch02) both vcenters are having independent dvswitches not spanned accross the vcenters. After adding the esxi5.5 hosts to vcenter 6.0, can the VM's residing on esxi5.5 hosts still run with the same dvswitch containing from vcenter 5.5 with out any network outage or their will be network outage? (no common storage but they are on same subnet)   question4:- for question3, in case if there is any network outage/downtime, what is the best approach with out taking any downtime/network outage? **Thank you in advance. Appreciate your time and help.
