Hi Cyk, Thank you so much for your help. I will install this image to the server: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/servers/solutions.html?compURI=1499005#tab=TAB4 vSphere 5.5 U1 Dec 2014. One more question. If I install vmware in a micro sd and the i have just 1 disk in the raid array which will be the datastore for virtualmachines, Will I be able to configure raid afterwards? I mean i will start with just 1 HDD in the array. Of do I have to install the 2 disks and configure the raid right away? Thank you so much, kind regard, Matias

Hello everyone, Good morning, hope you are doing fine. I've recently acquired a ProLiant ML310e Gen8 server. I read in the compatibility list that I am able to install the Esxi 6. Anyway I would like your opinion. My requisites are: * I need to use a free Vmware version. * Better if supports ProLiant ML310e Gen8 RAID controller. Thank you very much for your help Kind regards, Matias

Hi CykVM! Thanks for your answer. I tried to replace the second disk by another and I get this message. The new disk isn't a 2TB as it says, it's a 1TB disk. It's supposed to be a healthy disk. What do u interpret? It's well plugged in so I don't think this will be the issue. Thanks Kind regards Matias

Dear Vervoort, Thank again!I One more thing though, suppouse a disk fails and I take this out and insert a "healthy" one but that's got a lot of data inside. Does RAID deletes all the data and prepares it automatically in most Brand new systems as the HP Proliant microserver G8? Kind regards, Matias

Hello Vervoort, Thank you for your answer. So, in conclusion, I just take out a Disk (no matter which) from the array and it should continue working. If one of the disks breaks while the system is working, it's supposed to continue working and advice me about the broken disk. There are now 2 questions: 1) Isn't there a change that the broken disk data be copied to the healthy one and then the FS of the healthy one be corrupted? i imagine there's a protection that will stop this kind of attempt. Is like that? 2) If one disk breaks I have to turn the server off and then add a replacement disk (when I get it) and it will work all alone?? Or I will have to enter to the raid bios console to reconfigure the new disk to the raid 1 array?? Is there any procedure to do that in my HP proliant Microserver G8? Thank you again, Kind regards. Matias

Good moring, I have my HP server installed with ESXi 5.5 U1, and also the raid 1 array already configure, and supposed to work. The System Base installed in a micro SD card and the hdd array only for the vm's. I wonder is there is any way to test how the RAID 1 works. IE: Can I take one of the disks out and i will find the information on the other intact? What If i do it while the system is connected? If i turn off the server, take out 1 disk, then turn on, create a file "disk2" therefore i turn of and put again the disk and take out the other and create a file "disk1", when i put the 2 disks should I have the 2 files??... I'm giving examples and I would like if you could explain a little bit about this...to be sure when the RAID wil work and when NOT. Thank you very much, Kind Regards, Matias
Yes I got plenty material. I will work a little bit and if I have any issue I will be posting. Thank you very much again. Matias

Dear Mr. Padmani Thank you for your answer which I found very complete and clear. When I first installed VMware I found many backup solutions but they were not free. So I decided to make my own. I took a Script from internet and I adapted it to my needs. I use independent disks persistent so every week I turn the ERP and the Active Directory VM and turn it off (automatically) then a cron task executes the script and copies the vmdk and flat.vmdk files to another directory and then backuppc does a historical copy of the VM (quite redundant backup but I assure disponibility of the resources). I guest the most secure way to make backup is with the VM's turned off specially for ERP Software. I know "my" backup system is quite manual and there maybe a lot of free and paid solutions much more advances. Which one would you suggest? or do you think the way I'm doing this is not too bad? Thank you again. Kind Regards, Matias

Hi, Thank you for your answer and help! The article which refers to independent disks not being necessary to be backed up is: What are Dependent, Independent Disks & Persistent and Non-persisent Modes? | CormacHogan.com Why Independent Disks? This begs the question of what do Independent disks do for you, be they persistent or non-persistent. The bottom line is that if a disk is Independent, they can be omitted from a backup operation by virtue of the fact that they do not support snapshot operations. You can think of Independent as meaning ‘Independent of snapshots’. I don't get it. I have many independent persistent disks and i DO back them up because if disk gets damaged I won't have any backup! How do you see that? Kind Regards, Matias

Thank you for your answer! There is something i don't understand. You said only Vmware Esxi 4 would be capable of manage Raid, are you talking about a Vmware capability (software) of managing RAID? Because I assume that hardware raid is independent of the SO installed (the BIOS controls it). So...The H1110 is a hardware raid then it would have to work without any software compatibility..am I wrong? Thank you. Kind Regads, Matias
