After deploying template the nic is disconnected. I always check hardware and connect the nic before powering on.

As previously stated I tried hardware v8 and v10. I can't imagine v9 will make a big difference? And yes, I tried both VI and web client. Well, I got the VMs needed for this project and am not able to spend more time on this problem as for now. Hope that someone with more time to debug runs into this Sidenote: the error started with Intel nic too, had to deploy the last VM manually. Thanks for the suggestions!

vCenter 5.5u1 appliance. When using a non-sysprepped Server 2012 R2 template with a customization specification, sysprep is never executed. After lots of trial and error I found out that it fails with VMXNET3 but works with Intel 1000E nic. Anyone knows why?
ESXi 5.5 U1 (HP image) connected to 3PAR FC storage. I change path selection in vSphere client from MRU to RR, and it sticks until next reboot. Then it's back to MRU?
I bought a P410 because of this issue, but i upgraded to vCenter 5.5 before swapping controllers and it turns out that 5.5 correctly identifies SSD on P400. I guess it also does with P410.

In my lab server currently have an HP P400 RAID controller, and it works ok. But I would like to have support for SSD drives, and have them presented to ESXi as such. At the moment SSDs are discovered as Non-SSD. Can anyone confirm that if I upgrade to P410 controller, ESXi will discover SSD drives correctly?
Thanks Josh. This is for a customer, so delivering a printed report is essential. I have vcops installed in my lab but never took a closer look at it. Might be time for that.
Thanks Joel. I ended up using VMware HealthAnalyzer for the health part. Still haven't decided what to use for capacity check.

I am looking for at tool to make health and capacity check of a vSphere environment. Both a brief report for management and a more thorough. No monitoring features are needed. It is a one-timer so preferably free or trial software, and there must be preconfigured reports as there is no time allocated for customizing scripts. Thanks.
No I never got it solved. The system was shipped to a customers remote office, and haven't had my hands on it since.

I have two sites each covered by an Eaton UPS. First site has two vSphere 5 hosts forming a DRS/HA cluster, second site one vSphere 5 host. All managed by the same virtualized vCenter server running in the cluster. After installing IPM I am unable to make it login to vCenter. It actually does install the plugin, but after that the log shows "Error on the VMware connection" once a minute. Details are "Host 'vcenter': cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password". In the vCenter log i have 2012-02-28T16:35:52.947+01:00 [03452 info 'Default' opID=74ff386e] [VpxLRO] -- ERROR task-internal-4524 -- -- vim.SessionManager.login: vim.fault.InvalidLogin: --> Result: --> (vim.fault.InvalidLogin) { --> dynamicType = <unset>, --> faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null, --> msg = "", --> } --> Args: --> --> Arg userName: --> "domain\domainadmin" --> Arg password: --> (not shown) --> --> Arg locale: --> I have tried several accounts that I know for a fact works with vCenter, in the form of USERNAME, SERVERNAME\USERNAME and DOMAIN\USERNAME. Any help will be appreciated.

Is it not possible to migrate vm between host with vswitch and host with dvswitch, without removing the virtual network adapters? Ole Thomsen
Just got the same answer from VMware. The host will be unlicensed. Ole Thomsen

I've been trying to import the ovf-based Oracle storage simulator to ESX4. Also tried importing to Workstation when that failed. No luck. Not with integrated converter, not with standalone converter, not with ovftool. Changing/removing lines in .ovf file brings me a bit further but still no cigar. The process stalls at different points, but typically I get an error about unknown OS or unsupported hardware, sometimes a parse error with no additional info. Has anybody got this working? The simulator is a virtual-box based Solaris appliance. Ole Thomsen

Have you tried using the local administrator account? I just had a similar disk issue with vCenter import that failed with domain admin but worked after changing to local administrator account for the source server. Ole Thomsen
Ah, thanks Cyberfed27. The local admin tip saved my day Ole Thomsen
