Can you share the HD6450 bios
usb passthrough has issues with 5.1 - use 5.0 or 5.5

Did you give the VM more than 2GB memory ? Allways start with less than 2GB to get it working.
Crankshaft, make sure you have installed vmware tools

I have a problem where my home esxi 5.0.0 623860 is random crashing. When it crash all my VM stop responding but I can still access esxi from vsphere, but I cannot shutdown VMs or shutdown esxi. I have the following popup random in my log: Device t10.ATA_____WDC_WD20EARX2D00PASB0_____ ____________________WD2DWCAZAF671421 performance has deteriorated. The RDM HD (hosting WHS2011 vm) and the SSD HD (hosting esxi + some vm) is on the same mobo controller. My system is rather complex with lots of pci forwarding to VM, I could explain it if someone has hints to a solution.
Vintagedon, so nvidia cards are working now ?
You could remove the overscan via regedit, but it's a little trivial, I would try installing the catalyst control center.

I'm still having some issues with vmdirectpath on W7 (was working fine on linux), it seems the windows VM just dies at random times when not in active use. Sometimes when I get home from work the VM is not responsive, the usb reciever for remote is dead. Usually at this point vSphere cannot connect with the VM. Upon forced reboot windows event viewer have no information from when the system dies, the log just stops at some point. However today vSphere could still connect. I could see the vsphere log, and it says: "An error occured while saving a suspend file" (because of vmdirectpath) but I have suspend disabled in windows and the log of this error is from the point where I turned on my TV. Anyone else experience something like this ?
I think I found the missing piece of the puzzle. After installing VMWARE Tools it started working !

Actually, on the working Win7 VM, I installed the VM first and later added the passthrough device, then I did install drivers only, and when it was working I installed Catalyst. (need catalyst to remove stupid overscan compensation). Problem on both WHS and Win7 that is not working is that catalyst refuse to start. In display manager only the vmware display is listed. However in device manager ATi card is listed as installed and working. On Win7 / WHS dualboot on RDM, I did full driver and catalyst install. This VM I first installed WHS, but it was not working, later I installed W7 as dualboot (without passthrough enable) then I enable passthrough and do full install, and experience same in W7 as in WHS. I'm not using pci.Hole trick, I only have 2GB on my VMs

Update on my situation(page 21 and 22): As notet earlier: Linux works fine with passthrough. WHS2011 install drivers fine, but no way to get output on TV, catalyst will not start. W8 Consumer Preview, drivers install fine, output on TV, catalyst will not start. I now  tested W7 32bit, it installed drivers fine and everything works perfect, catalyst etc. So since I was running low on diskspace to host VMs I tried to install W7 as a dualboot on the WHS2011 system (it has a 2 TB RDM harddisk), but now I experience the same issue on W7 as I did on WHS2011, everything installs fine and and reports as fine, but no output to TV and catalyst refuse to start. I compared the working W7 VM to the none working WHS2011 (with W7 dualboot) and they are exactly the same, except for it beeing installed on a RDM harddisk rather than virual disk. I actually replaced the virtual disk in my working W7 VM with the RDM disk and boot up W7 from it, and it still did not work. It's really frustrating that install media can block if it's working or not.

Like he said, there are no success story's with esxi and nvidia, besides this is a thread for ATi. If you plan on continue to try this and expect help I would suggest creating a thread called "VMDirectPath and Nvidia". But if you don't need vmware, go for Xen who is confirmed to be working with nvidia.

Please double check that you are doing it correctly, the behaviour you describe is perfect normal with gfx passthrough. Once cnic_register is loading display will freeze and stay that way until you start a VM that access the gfx card, at that point the screen will normally go dark, and stay that way until gfx drivers are loaded. Text display is output via console in vSphere. So your remote vSphere client fails to connect to the esxi server ? Are you sure you are connecting to the right IP adress with vSphere ?
