I would like to put a cname in front of my VMC Vcetner, when I do so, get the error [400] An error occurred while sending an authentication request to the vCenter Single Sign-On server - An error occurred when processing metadata during vCenter Single Sign-On setup: the service provider validation failed. Verify that the server URL is correct and is in FQDN format, or that the hostname is a trusted service provider alias.   There is a workaround for on-prem is in a kb, but obviously I cannot make these changes to a VMC environment. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/71387 Any thoughts how to get past this? Thanks, -GB

My VC is 7.x and many of my clusters are 7.x, however I still have one cluster that I cannot upgrade past 6.5 due to hardware limitations. VC is constantly trying to deploy vCLS vms to this cluster. I do need to keep DRS enabled on this cluster, can I put the vCLS in retreat mode for this cluster but still have DRS working since it is not vCLS aware?  or is there another way to have VC stop attempting to deploy the vCLS vms?   Thanks, GB

vrops, the what-if is analysis is missing datacenters.  (from multiple Vcenters).  When looking at metrics we are collecting current metrics. So the only place the info is missing is from the What-If.   I can logon as the collector user to vcenter and see all the data as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thx,

My company has stopped using an application that had installed a vib on about 50 or so hosts.  The service for the vib is stopped. While removing a vib is fairly easy, (maint mode, putty command, reboot, exit maint), on 50+ hosts it is time consuming.  Is it worth it to go through the effort or just leave it?  I know leaving it out there has a slight possibility of leaving non-maintained security vector, possible future host upgrade incompatibilities, but what about resource utilization for this one vib, since the service related to is stopped (and disabled)?   Thoughts and opinions please. Thanks, GB

Hi Bob, Thx, I actually found a yellow bricks post about this, basically re-enable, disable and then the next enable will be clear and that worked.  I did run into other issues with deployment. I just opened SR  20163689810 , if you have access and want to peruse my case if nothing else for educating yourself. -thx, GB

I want to enable SMB on vsan file services.  Ran into an issue, so I disabled it, and now want to re-enable it. It is picking up the previous config which I would like to alter.  How can I erase the previous config?  I looked for a json that might contain it but nothing obvious stood out. TIA for any guidance

harry89 which log snip you want? the log bundle compressed is 16mb and I am sure you don't want to deal with all of it. Thx
Thanks harry89, I went through the KB no errors, replaced 3 certificates but still the same issue when I attempt to upgrade. -GB

attempting to upgrade my lab from 6.7u3.latest to 7.0.latest new VCSA VM deploys ok, but during pre-check get the following error: Error A vCenter Single Sign-On endpoint certificate validation error has occurred. Resolution Ensure that the endpoint service registrations in vmdir match their corrsponding machine SSL certificates in VECS. For more information, see Knowledge Base article KB 2121701. I have already gone through the KB to no avail.  I have also gone through and reset all certs (cert manager option 8). Anyone have any guidance or suggestions? Thanks, -GB

I am trying to export vm events from vcenter for all vms in a DC.  Docs talk a out an icon but that is not there in 6.7 html so off to powercli I run Get-Datacenter my-dc | Get-VIEvent | export ovg   however I get a lot of events, with not a lot of data.  such as missing the initiator of task, time stamp, actual task name.  The end state that I am trying to get is to see what time the backup team took snapshots or performed other functions.  I can see the data if I look at the tasks pane in vcenter, just can't export it. Any guidance would be appreciated. -GB

so I am testing the process with my syslog server.  I deleted 100GB worth of older logs.  ran sdelete 2.0.2 (which was slow) then ran vmkfstools -K myvmdk  This did not seem to free up any free space with the view in vcenter.  I am seeing the storage usage on the summary tab of the vm within vcenter.  I even tried a storage vmotion after the above, with no change. Thoughts?  (FYI, vmkfstools was about 3x faster than sdelete, but as the link ChrisFD2 mentions, 2.0.x seems to be much slower than 1.6)

Thanks ChrisFD, I am not sure if the drive was fully used at some point.  I did find this posting basically saying the same thing you are https://community.hitachivantara.com/docs/DOC-1006003 I am running the sdelete now and it is taking a LOOONG time. Any guess on the vmkfstools timing? As long as the sdelete, just a few quick min, or could be hours?  I know you don't know my env so your answer would be a guess at this point, but any info would be appreciated. Thanks for replying, GB
