in the workstation system, can you confirm if you are using any other ISO emulators which are holding the lock on the ISO image. Also, can you confirm the hardware version of the VM you are using? Just to find out if you are using a SATA DVD drive As a workaround, can you check with EFI bios? instead of UEFI?

Frustrated Enduser Hat on: Being in the IT for more than a decade, I always hated the new technology that has come up at first since I had been so much used to the older one but got used to the new ones in due time and started loving it. For ex: facebook interfaces changing 6 months, Win8, Mgmt UI for Servers. But in the specific case of webclient, doesn't matter how much I try to like it by using it every day in my day to day work, it still stands to be hated tough, given the base idea that it is supposed to ease our work with one point of management on different products of VMware. It stands out an exemplary example to have a look at other options and the Basic question "Why the force move asking users to use web interface rather than the C#"? Its the move like these which got several giants topple.. Frustrated Enduser Hat off: I do have to agree that VMware is trying to patch up the issues addressed on the webclient front. But with heavy products relying on vSphere platform and more and more features being available only on webclient,  its a very very slow process in  a race to the mountain" "In other words, VMware bought a knife to a Bazooka fight "

While it is an interesting issue you are facing, I want to take out the possibility of the incorrect password being provided. Can you confirm if you are able to login to the esxi server 5.1 via putty :smileyconfused: Also, the VCVA 5.5 does have a feature to expire old passwords more than 90 days, but that would not impact here since you are trying to connect to the esxi server.

Well, it all depends upon the environment need your server is placed. For ex: if you dont want users to meddle with ssh to the server, then you can stop the SSH, NTP is not configured, then you can stop NTP. N1KV* does note to Cisco switch. So I wouldnt recommend to stop it, if you are using Cisco N1K Do refer to the VMware Security Hardening Guides | United States on the required services for ESXi to work and securing them

VMware virtual machine it suffers the terrible 6 or 7MBps. What is the adapter in the vm? Also, instead of file transfer as baseline, can you perform a scp of a one Big file say [1G] to the VM and to the regular network? This should take out the Guest role in picture.

I have reviewed all the documentation, but don't understand the exact option that I should add for the machines are migrated using 30% of CPU. Hey there,                 What myself and @vickyvision2020 are trying to put is that in advanced options of DRS cluster which you have pointed out, you can have only the settings which vickyvision2020  has mentioned. CostBenefit UseDownTime IgnoreDownTimeLessThan MinImbalance MinGoodness MaxMovesPerHost To have your requirement, you need to set an alarm in the VC to focus on Host CPU usage which will then migrate the VMS by putting the host in maintenance mode Create DRS and DPM Alarms
Hey, that is good to know.. Do update if you find the answer helpful or correct answer

Hi and welcome to the communities, The Purple Screen Of Death [PSOD] which you are experiencing is known issue and is fixed in 55 U1 VMware KB: VMware ESXi 5.x host experiences a purple diagnostic screen mentioning E1000PollRxRing and E1000DevRx Please do try to update to U1 or switch to vmxnet3 as a workaround. There are lots of threads in vmware communities which discuss this thread too. Happy to help, zXi

One thing, I can immediately think of is setting an alarm or customizing an existing HostCPU alarm. Under DRS,Alarms,  you can find a definition for Host CPU Usage. You can either create a new alarm based on Host CPU usage and set the threshold of CPU to 30% and set the action item as Move into maintenance mode. If DRS is configured, this would make the migrations of the VM to other hosts. But it would also impact the other VMS in the host. I will post more data, if you require, as I am running late Oh and welcome to the communities.

Hi and Welcome to the communities, There are few things you can provide us to get more insight on the system: - ESXi version - Guest  which is being used - HW version of the VM - I do hope that the vmware tools are updated in the guest. Also, when you perform the editing operation on the file, try to look at the vmware.log [/vmfs/volumes/datastore/VM/vmware.log] for any interesting messages? Thanks, zXi

Hi and Welcome to the communities,        FreeNAS and ESXi have long going history of performance which usually bounce back to FreeNAS or some settings from ESXi side which need to changed. Hi techfutures,                          Welcome to the communities. Since you have mentioned that you are seeing the APD in 5.0 also, it takes out the APD scenario mentioned in the yellow bricks site. However, I just have a few queries: >With no VM's running it seems ok (obviously, as nothing is using the NFS datastores), once we turn on a single VM then the issue starts. This usually means that the NAS is accessible to the server, but no write operations can be performed. You can confirm this by mounting the NFS datastore and try adding a new file by touch /vmfs/volumes/NFS/File I am thinking that the NFS will go APD here too. Possible solution could be check on the permissions on the ZFS VM on the allowed IPs, read/write access to groups and might be clumsy to ask, but from the screenshot, I am finding that there are no uplinks to the second vSwitch. So only the vm can access the ZFS datastore... Thanks, zXi
What I can observe from the dump is that: "2014-05-21T22:55:33.018Z cpu0:33262)Config: 346: "LogToSerial" = 1, Old Value: 0, (Status: 0x0) 2014-05-21T22:55:33.027Z cpu0:33262)Config: 446: "LogP... See more...
What I can observe from the dump is that: "2014-05-21T22:55:33.018Z cpu0:33262)Config: 346: "LogToSerial" = 1, Old Value: 0, (Status: 0x0) 2014-05-21T22:55:33.027Z cpu0:33262)Config: 446: "LogPort" = "COM1", Old value: "none" (Status: 0x0)" So COM1 port is set successfully. Its when getting the information of boot.logPort and setting the boot.logPort to COM2 we hit the Page Fault. most likely called by  VSI_SetInfo, which tries to set the COM2. Possible theory is that it is unable to access COM2 [IPMI SOL] or refers to COM2 which is already in use and unable to set by vsi-setinfo causing the PF. Either way, you need to raise a support request to bring this up to be fixed if needed. :smileylaugh:
