Anyone know how many simulatnaeous conversions can be done with GUI converter. I am aware the CLI p2v tool has up to 10. TIA

I have read various instances whereby FC is not supported in ESXi 3.5 to connect to tape libraries. Can someone tell me if this is the case. If so, how would I go about connect the tape library. I am told there are some options including SCSI HBA (Adaptec only), SCSI Passthru, and PCI Passthru (ESX/i4.0). Just to be clear I want to be able to present the tape library to the VM guest, specifically a Windows guest and using NBU. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Can someone tell me what the naming connotation is for patches, for example: ESXe350-200810401-O-UG.zip Obviously, ESXe350 I know as well as for 2008, but what are the numbers afterward (a date?, update issue number?). I am aware of the letters as well, but what does UG,BG,SG, etc mean? I know this may be a silly questions but just trying to breakdown the naming convention for clarity and organization of my patch folder. TIA

Hello All, Everytime I am running VI client 2.5 (or Vsphere), my usb mous completely freezes. I still have access to USB keyboard and can execute commands. Afterward I pull the mouse out and plug into another USB and it works for a second and locks up. The optical light on the mouse remains on. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN USING VI CLIENT ON MY MACHINE, so I do not think it is hardware but something conflicting with the client and mouse. Anyone else have similar problems? I am running XP SP3. TIA, Aikora

I installed ESX 3.5 on fusion and configured properly. Can ping Vcenter, localhost, gateway, etc and vice versa from both VC and ESX VI3 VM. It seems when I try to add an ESX host on the VC which resides on another box (Windows of course), I get REQUEST TIME OUT error. I have used both IP and hostname with no luck. i have also fully opened the firewall holes for the ESX and made certain there were no firewalls running on any hosts. Is there something that needs to be configured in the networking properties for ESX? I came across another post in which someone seemed to figure out the problem but was so eloquent in NOT providing the solution but simply letting us know that a solution was found. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/155812 TIA, Altria

Thanks for you quick response! Lets say I am not interested in DR but would like to create an additional datacenter at a site location to manage a particular guest. I have no intention of using VMotion or such. In this case would it be possible to use the same Vcenter Enterprise license to manage an additional host. Basically, this means I have the license for the additional host (2cpu) and Vcenter Enterprise manager. the database part is not important in this case as I would be creating essentially a different datacenter. Thanks, Aikora92

Are multiple licenses required to run Vcenter on different boxes. Suppose I just used the same license file? Then again how would I be able to share the same database for information of ESX hosts, etc... between the two boxes if I am running MSDE? Also, can someone point me to the appropriate docs for implementation of Vcenter using MS SQL Server? TIA, aikora92

Hello All, I am having some issues attaching NETAPP FAS 270 as a ISCSI target to ESXi host. I was able to present the the NAS filer to the host but upon reboot the iscsi filer disappears. Rescanning the HBAs does not show anything. After some tinkering with storage configurations and such I am able to see the filer once again, but it is very inconsistent. I am sure it is not suppose to be this way as the iscsi target should be available at any point in time once I have assigned the storage (VI vlient), isnt that correct? Any thoughts? BTW using instructions in configuration found here.... TIA, aikora92

I am still unable to get this to work....I have downloaded both version of VM 6.5 and still the same error messages I will start to look at the vmx config file. thanks, aikora92

JBSengineer, What build is that if you do not mind me asking. I think that I downloaded the 6.5 RC from VMware site. Do you have any docs about the Fusion build as well. I am assuming I do not have to recreate the ESX box on the WS 6.5, nor the IET for iscsi. I just removed my older WS 6.0 and replaced with 6.5? Thanks, aikora

I have successfully setup and configured ESX3.5 to run under VM 6 WS but it appears that when I add a VM using the VI client to the ESX host I encounter the following error; "you may not power on a virtual machine within a virtual machine" I am sure there must be something to work around this as I am aware that others have gotten VMs to work under ESX 3.5 under VM WS 6.0. If there isnt then there wouldn't be any point for xtravirt to even document and acknowledge this procedure for testing an ESX environment. Any help would be appreciated TIA, aikora92
