Appendix D - This is not complete.  If you happen to have SSH keys on your client depending on the client order it may offer those keys first, causing an issue as you reduce the "MaxAuthTries" to "2".  I have two SSH keys that are tried before it would default to password.  While I can change the order of the attempted auth methods it may be easier to document that it may be required to be increased to something larger.  The default is 6.

Got the email on Monday.  Downloaded and installed the collector, configured proxy and that all worked. Tried to link to my account and received the error below.  I was not asked to select an EA The My VMware account or EA number you have selected is not associated with a Skyline enabled entitlement account. Please visit https://www.vmware.com/support/services/skyline.html to signup to be a part of our next adoption wave. The account is correct as I get a different error if I mistype the password - so that shows me that it is connecting via the proxy. Your MyVMware username and/or password do not match our records. Please try logging in again or go to https://my.vmware.com to reset your password. I have three EA's associated with my account so assume that is the cause but perhaps it is my account is not yet enabled? -- J
Hi Justin, Thanks for the confirmation.
That worked.  I guess I should have tried that first.  Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to add a vCenter to my collector and it says: The certificate provided by your vCenter is not valid (Certificate Thumbprint [8e23e1d9adcff00921b94a80220f12c626858ef7]). Press... See more...
Hi, I'm trying to add a vCenter to my collector and it says: The certificate provided by your vCenter is not valid (Certificate Thumbprint [8e23e1d9adcff00921b94a80220f12c626858ef7]). Press "CONTINUE" if you would like to continue using an invalid certificate. When I click continue it just says error 500.  Please help.  Thanks. Justin

This discussion is around Getting Started and Common Questions related to the Skyline Collector virtual appliance. Q. Do I have to install the Skyline Collector to participate in the pilot for Production Support? A. Yes, the deployment of at least one Skyline Collector is required in order to participate in this pilot. Q. What if I want findings and recommendations for more than one vCenter Server / NSX Manager? A. You can connect multiple vCenter Servers and NSX Managers to a single Collector. You can connect up to 10 endpoints (vCenter Server / NSX Manager) to a single Collector. Q. Can I install multiple Collectors for organization and management requirements? A. Yes, you can install multiple Collectors within your environment if required for organization and/or management requirements. Please use the same My VMware account during registration of each additional Collector installed. Example: Collector  >  My VMware Registration (same email across all Collectors) > Attached Endpoints (vCenter Server / NSX Manager) Collector 1 > myemail@domain.com > vCenter1, vCenter2, NSX1 Collector 2 > myemail@domain.com > VDIvCenter1, VDIvCenter2 Q. What if I have vCenter Servers and NSX Managers that are geographically dispersed? A. We recommend installing a Collector for each geographically dispersed endpoint. Therefore, if you were to have endpoints in Seattle, Omaha and New York City, we recommend installing a Collector at each of those locations (Seattle, Omaha, New York City) and connecting each Collector to the endpoints local to each location. Q. Do I need to login to the Collector UI after I have completed installation and configuration? A. The Collector is designed to be low-touch. Reasons that you would need to login to the Collector UI include adding a vCenter Server/NSX Manager, removing a vCenter Server/NSX Manager, configuring a proxy, changing the account password or troubleshooting endpoint collection or the Collector itself. There is no information provided within the Collector related to the delivery of proactive support.

VMware Skyline™: an innovative support technology, developed entirely by VMware Engineering, that provides VMware technical support engineers with extreme visibility into your (customer’s) environment. Customers with active support subscriptions install the VMware Skyline Collector, a standalone appliance that automatically and securely collects product usage data such as configuration, feature, and performance data. It then listens for changes, events and patterns and analyzes the information using a robust rules and machine learning engine. The rules engine is where an ever-growing library of support intelligence, product knowledge, and logic is stored to analyze inbound streams of product information.
