There will be a large Hands On Lab you can sign up for along with tons of breakout session covering many topics.
You can join VMUG Advantage to get a one year license for many VMware products. It's $200 per year to join. 
To get the certification you will have to take the VMware course online or in person from an approved education vendor before or after the exam.
I may try to take the exam at VMware Explore in San Francisco.

I just took the VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V7] on May 2nd. It was a great class. It was my first in person training event in two years. Now I'm working on studying to pass the exam for certification.
