You do get the VCAP-DCD result as soon as you're finished. It's VCAP-DCA where your lab work has to be verified. Scott.

Note: I don't work for VMware, but I am a VCI and have taught the ICM, TS, and Design courses many times. I don't agree for one second that the TS class is just the same as ICM, you would have learned how to use the vMA/vCLI, how to setup syslog, how to configure PVLANs, there's a huge list of content that's unique to the TS class - and that's before you even get to the break/fix labs. As for the Design class, a huge amount depends on the instructor and the students who attend. With both the TS and Design classes the instructor takes on more of a facilitator role over just being a lecturer. Sorry to hear you have had a poor experience, but I personally don't feel that's down to the courseware/content - that's definitely not the feedback I get from my students when I deliver those courses. Scott.
I read a tweet on Tuesday from a contact who also received his kit this week, he said the same... Scott.
You'll find plenty of links to most of the key VCP resources on my blog: http://vmwaretraining.blogspot.com Scott.
It was definitely a "who knows?" Jon, I wasn't looking for an answer...
Who knows when everything will be released?

You shouldn't need to anything. If you took the course directly with VMware or payed using PSO credits you should automatically have been registered on the VMware MyLearn system against the training course. If you attended the course with a VATC, your instructor should have led you through a registration process on MyLearn. VMware can cross-reference MyLearn against the information supplied to them by Pearson Vue when you pass the exam. If the process doesn't work as it should, you can email certification@vmware.com and they can investigage and rectify things for you. Scott.
Your best bet in getting a replacement manual is through whichever provider you did your training with - they may be able to help. Scott.

Things have definitely changed, my employer would love to be able to get VMware manuals for $200!! And we have to pay VATC fees, certify our VCIs, and rent or host lab equipment - it's a costly business being a VATC, a good business, but a costly business. Oh, and then there's my salary! Scott.
I should also add that I know how much the official training manuals cost :smileyshocked: Scott.

Remember that many official courses can be done live online these days, although the Design course is not available via that method due to the nature of it's content and participation. I can't personally see VMware changing their policy on selling manuals outside of a training event, as someone who works for a VATC I can't even begin to imagine my Managing Director's face if that were to happen. VMware also publish such a huge amount of information on their web site in terms of the vSphere documentation, technical papers, and so on. They may choose to publish official reference books at some point in the future, like Microsoft do, who knows? Scott.

I can say that VMware definitely don't sell the official training manuals to anyone other than their own training students and training providers such as VATCs, and that VATCs cannot re-sell them. As I'm no lawyer, I've no idea whether a student selling their training manuals on would be illegal, my guess would be that it is. Scott.
Almost right - the "grace period" for VCP3-holders actually got extended to the end of January 31st 2010, but everything else you said was spot on. Scott.

I do know of some plans that VMware have for VCP4 in Q1 2011, I can't say more as they've not been publicly announced yet, but I've heard nothing like what that HP document says. They also don't mention the instructor-led What's New course in relation to VCP4, I think they've just done a bad job of updating the document to reflect that the Install Configure Maanage 4.0 and Fast Track 4.0 courses are now retired - August 2010 and December 2010 respectively. They also state that the Troubleshooting course "will meet the class attendance requirements for VCP Certification credentials for those having prior VMware administration experience and now wishing to achieve VMware Certified Professional (VCP status) on vSphere 4" - this is ambiguous as that course will actually qualify anyone for VCP4, but regardless of certification the course is only advised for those with VCP4-level skills and knowledge. The official VCP page is here: http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www Best of luck for your exam Scott.
