So I have a VCP 5.5 that expires in 30 days.  I was planning on taking the 2V0-621D exam to upgrade it to VCP 6.0 and restart the count down timer.  I'm doing 6.0 and not 6.5 because my organization (the US government) has not authorized us to upgrade to 6.0 yet, so I like to keep my cert where my experience and use case is. In an email I just got they said I could renew my certification by passing the "newest" exam.  Does that mean 2V0-621D is not valid for renewal?  If that's the case I have 30 days to learn 6.5 stuff that I have no real world experience with.  I'm really hoping 2V0-621D will renew my VCP.  Can anyone confirm?

I call BS.  The 550 exam was not massively long or even hard.  This is just a revenue stream.  You're just forcing people to take two exams and memorize two sets of useless information that has no practical value.  This is just padding pockets and reinforcing the brain dumping behavior that is prevalent in cert collectors.  Any verbiage stating that this is to help the test taker and increase the value of the cert is simply marketing swill. As a hiring manager I never even look at someone's certs.  The questions on the exams have little to do with what you need to know in reality, and most people just brain dump them.  Breaking VCP into two exams just makes it more annoying to get.  It certainly doesn't increase its value.  The only cert of any actual value is the VCAP since it is a practical lab and not multiple regurgitation.  Ok rant off, continue supporting the horrid racket that is the cert industry.

When did the VCP start requiring two exams for new people?  I only had to do one exam back in the day and my coworker just looked and they are requiring a 2V0-620 foundations exam in addition to the 2V0-621 exam?  When did this ripping off of your customer base start?  I feel sorry for him having to jump through yet another hoop to get the VCP. Certs, what a freaking racket.

Yep this is what I figured.  The path of least resistance would be take the VCP6-DCV Delta exam to upgrade my VCP then take the VCAP6-DCV Deploy exam, but that's still only implied there by lack of other options.  Meaning there's no "If you have VCP5-DCV..." path  (which I think would cover a lot of people). Call me crazy, but I just don't like making inferences based on incomplete information.  I will probably email them just to be sure.  Thanks again.

Yep I've already read all the official documentation.  I found it lacking in the specifics i was asking about, so I came here.  The diagrams imply that you need to update your cert to 6.0 before taking the VCAP exam, but they do not explicitly state it.  That's why I came here for clarification. So to be clear the question is a simple yes or no: If I have an active VCP 5.5 DCV, register for and pass the VCAP 6 DCV Deploy 6, would I then be granted the VCAP cert? I of course would like to avoid having to spend two hundred some bucks on a test if its not absolutely necessary, but that may be the business model here to generate revue.  The FAQ doesn't have a section for "I have a VCP5, do I need to upgrade it to VCP 6 prior to taking the exam".  The new candidates section only lists paths if you have a current VCP6 in DCV and a path for if you hold a VCP6 in other areas.  I take the implication there that I have to upgrade my VPC to 6.  I'm just asking for confirmation of that ...inconvenient requirement. So can anyone confirm that upgrading your VCP to 6 is a explicit and hard requirement to be granted the VCAP 6 cert upon passing the exam?

So I'm setting up a home lab and I don't want the noise/heat/power use of a rack mount server.  I also don't want to spend a lot of money.  It doesn't have to be fast, it just has to work.  Has anyone tried to install ESXi 6 on a Dell Precision (3500 or otherwise).  These are crazy cheap on ebay and can be loaded up with a 6 core processor and cheap RAM.  I know the drivers wont be in the VIB from dell since these aren't on the hardware comparability guide, but just because it isn't supported doesn't mean it wont work.  Anyone get this kind of unsupported install working?  In my professional life I've never tried to install on unsupported hardware and have always had an appropriate VIB.  I've never had to mess around with loading customer drivers or making my own VIB.  Thanks.
