In general, I've found it more reliable to uninstall the prior version before installing the new one. Furthermore, I've found it is generally better to uninstall with the old version's installer. This is what I did to upgrade the other day: $ ./VMware-Workstation-Full-17.0.0-20800274.x86_64.bundle --uninstall-product vmware-workstation then: $ ./VMware-Workstation-Full-17.5.0-22583795.x86_64.bundle --install-bundle VMware-Workstation-Full-17.5.0-22583795.x86_64.bundle Clearly, your versions may vary.

Hi, I'm working with vmWare Workstation on Tuxedo laptop (Linux OS) After updating the kernel vmWare Workstation don't work on my maschine. I've tryed to update to the new Version with sudo bash VMware-Workstation-Full-17.5.0-22583795.x86_64.bundle Extracting VMware Installer...done. Uninstalling VMware Workstation 17.0.2 Uninstalling VMware Workstation 17.0.2 Deconfiguring... after this the script stopps. I've tryed to unistall the tools manually with sudo vmware-installer -u vmware-workstation --console this also don't work and vmWare Player is still installed. What do I wrong or how could I find a logfile or details why the installation fails? Thanks in advance Kind regards Dirk P.S. I have a license from my company account eglv.de

Hi All, Feel free to move this post to an appropriate location if this is incorrect. This is my first post and was unsure if this is the right forum. basically i have been having some trouble with duplciate sids when I build and join a newly created server to my domain as part of my lab. I wondered if there was a way of cloning or making a template that creates a different SID thus not getting the errors i am currently experiencing. I hope someone call help or offer and advice. Regards.

Hi team, Anyone got performance issues on Windows 23H2 with updated VMWare Workstation 17.5? My system is freezing for sevral seconds for simple tasks like deleting a tab on Excel or waiting for an administrator approval prompt when updating a software. It's also a madness to accept a Zoom call. I increased CPU cores, increased priority to high, removed debug logs and memory trimming but the performance issues persists. Thanks a lot

Running VMWare Workstation 17.5.0 build-22583795 here. I have just noticed that my issues with mouse and keyboard started right after I upgraded... Basically, after some time the Linux guest (I am using Ubuntu Mate) stops receiving keyboard and mouse inputs. What I need to do then, is to manually disconnect my mouse/ keyboard USB connections from the host and connect them to the guest, just so I can gracefully close everything and restart the VM... This seems like a joke :|. Did any of you guys find out a workaround for this, to somehow reactivate the inputs?

Hello community: I have found this article in VMware KB (How to Add Restrictions of a Virtual Machine | KB Article VMware ). When I shut down the VM and then go Settings > Options > Access Control > Encrypt and enter a password then let it do its thing I do not see the Enable Restrictions anywhere and I'd like to do so. The VM is running in Workstation 17.2 running on Windows 11 Pro x64. The VM hardware version is 16.x. I have been looking all over the place for what the issues is but no luck. My objective is to lock down the configuration and also to ensure that the VM goes back to a defined snapshot on power off.

upgraded to workstation pro 17.5 on win 11. Had high cpu 20% vmnat.exe usage. Replaced the vmnat.exe file and sovled the problem. Thanks

If you are running Workstation Pro, you can purchase per-incident support "vouchers" from the VMware's online store https://store-us.vmware.com/per-incident-support-workstation-pro-5424560200.html and then use that to open a support request. It's not ideal that you have to spend your own money to open a support incident to get action on a bug, but that's unfortunately the way VMware has chosen to support its products. The community forums are just that - a community of users of the product. It isn't frequented by VMware employees looking for problem reports as part of their day jobs. There should be zero expectations that a VMware employee will take action on anything posted here - if by chance they do, then you're extremely lucky.

After installing vmware and opening it, I'm trying to launch bluestacks and other AAA games but it says that there is no video card and when I look in the task manager it only shows cpu, ram, disk. How could I make the virtual card appear in the task manager or bluestacks recognize it? Hi, I am using VMware® Workstation 17 Pro 17.5.0 build-22583795 Host is running DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint DISTRIB_RELEASE=20 DISTRIB_CODENAME=ulyana DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 20 Ulyana" Guest is also running DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint DISTRIB_RELEASE=20 DISTRIB_CODENAME=ulyana DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 20 Ulyana" It so happens that when in the guest in a directory where there are for example .txt or .pdf files you alternatively click right and left cursor arrows several times, the guest completely freezes. The only way out is to restart the machine. It does not happen on the Host OS I changed keyboards, and also changes USB ports where keyboard is plugged in. I also went back several snapshots just in case it was a distribution problem It does not appear to happen on a windows guest. Please help. Thank you Edgar

The only differrence is that it doesn't display any errors and just exits to command prompt without any output. I forgot to ask... Does re-encryption affect all previous snapshots? Or, is it only the snapshots since the re-encryption operation?

Thank you for the quick response. I cannot remove encryption until I remove all snapshots, and that is something I would like to postpone. Also, I remember that I cannot remove encryption if the TPM device is installed. For now, I replaced the vmnat.exe file as suggested by jen2, which seems to resolve the problem. I am a professional software developer, and it makes me uneasy to tamper with VMware Workstation. I am especially nervous about the "re-encryption" aspect of the update. I should never have permitted this. Thanks again.

It is a violation of Apple's licensing to run their OS on non-Apple hardware. We cannot help you here or VMware could get into legal trouble. Also note that in order to even try to run MacOS on Workstation, you have to hack the software - so you've come to a vendor's site admitting you illegally modified their software and are asking for help with it!

I'm at a blank when it comes to adding more than 1 processor for vmware 16 pro. I installed macOS Sanoma on vmware workstation and followed the instructions I found to finish the installation and this virtual machine is running very slow. Host is running a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K with 128GB of RAM the fastest computer I've built, and a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti video card. When I try to add another processor I receive this warning about adding additional processors. Other than software configuration I don't understand why I cannot add another processor, booting up macOS is slow, running it is even slower, I did do something that is probably not recommended, and article I found stated that disabling Core Isolation speeds up the vm however leaving you open to attacks like malware. Is there some sort of solution to this other than disabling security features in the host?

We can’t. You need a support agreement with VMWare and none of us have one. Their solution for people without support agreements is to post on the community forums so they can subsequently ignore it....
