Folk, Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. The download file is VMware-player-12.5.1-4542065. This file doesn't install network adapter for VMs in Windows 10. In my old computer Windows 7, VMplayer 3.0 installed network adapter in Windows 7. That is VMnet1 and VMnet8. I simply configure VMnet8 to enable 2 VMs communicate with each other and host machine and internet. I have copied one more folder of VM Oracle Linux 5 into Windows 10. I need to enable 2 VMs can connect with internet and can communicate with each other. But there is no VMnet1 and VMnet8 in Windows 10 after install VMware Workstation Player 12.5.1. I run the command "ipconfig" in Windows 10 as below: C:\user\MyName> ipconfig Its output: Ethernet adapter Ethernet 2: Media State: Media Disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection *2: Media State: Media Disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection: Media State: Media Disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi: Media State: Media Disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix: domain.actdsltmp Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: As you see the output above, Windows 10 is not the same with Windows 7. There is no VMnet1 and VMnet8 to configure for VMs network. My questions are: 1) The 2 VMs are not created in Windows 10 originally and are copied folder. Does it cause Network Adapter problem ? 2) How to have VMnet1 and VMnet8 come up in Windows 10 Network Adapter so that we can configure the network for 2 VMs ? Thanks in advance.

Suddenly, hard drive is full and the VM is no longer working.  Says ourfile.vmx is not a valid configuration file although it was working fine.  I think the .vmx file must be corrupt and has filled up my hard drive but I have no idea what to do or how to fix it.  I'm using VM player 5.0.2.  Can anyone help me?
I just tested copy and paste out right now. It works fine. It seems the problem is specific to your computer. Which version of VMware are you using?

Hi Tracy, I can confirm that after installing the 12.5.1 update for Workstation Pro that the 7za.exe is now showing as version 16.02. This version is not vulnerable to the issues I mentioned in this thread. Many thanks for your excellent work on having this update include this fix. Have a great day:smileycool:

Hello, My ubuntu 14.04 VM isn't seeing the entire disk for some reason. If I go into the "virtual Machine Settings" and go to the disk, here's what it says: Capacity Current size: 3.9 GB System free: 373.2 GB Maximum size: 20 GB But when I go into ubuntu and look in the system monitor, it says that I have a total of 4.2 GB, used 3.7GB and only have 207.5MB free. This clearly isn't right. What's going on? This basically means my VM is unusable for all intents and purposes. My host OS is Windows 10. Thanks

> can *.vmem not be sync to disk when it is in memory? No mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE" that parameter tells WS not to use a vmem-file that is stored on disk. Instead it allocates that file in RAM + swapfile. When you suspend the VM WS transfers the content of the vmem inside RAM to a permanent file on disk. This will probably uses even more time than you needed without the mainmemfile parameter. To speed up  wakeup of a suspended VM the only thing you ca´n do is to reduce the amount of RAM for the VM. I noticed that in most cases powering down the VM is faster than using Suspend.

Did you really try the batch I recommended ? The name "vmnetbridge" is not a service name as you would find in services.msc for example but you should find it in registry as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\VMnetBridge. If vmnetbridge is not present in your installation brdged network would have never worked. So please open a cmd and enter "net start vmnetbridge" You should get a reply like one of these: - access is denied - the service name is invalid - the service has been started successfully - the service is already running If you get "access denied" try again with a cmd launched as administrator Ulli
Please post your vmx file.  Make sure that shared folders are enabled, and defined.
Yes, this is certainly possible, and common.  One solution is found on Ulli's page - transparent bridge.  Sanbarrow.com

Running VMware Workstation Pro v12.5 I created a disk for a NEW VM from scratch and brought the VM into operation Running Debian Linux as the guest. At one point the size got up to 21 Gb due to the copying of some zipped files into the guest from the host. After deleting the zip I expected the actual size in my host (Windows 7) to decrease to more closely match the size of the drive in the VM, but it has never come back down. Here is the output from df -h to show what the size of the drive is in Linux, confirming size of 13 Gb out of 50 Gb drive. Boxer-SIM:~# cd / Boxer-SIM:/# df -h Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1              48G   13G   35G  27% / tmpfs                 3.9G  4.0K  3.9G   1% /dev/shm But as you can see in my Windows host, more space it being taken up by the Boxer-SIM.vmdk disk. (Linux doesnt have any recycle bin that I am aware of where deleted files are kept, does it?) Thanks dd

I'm putting together a pen-test/ethical hacking virtual environment and am looking for advice as to the best way to keep that environment as separate as possible from my 'live' LAN given the programs I will be running. I am planning to use the 192.168.1.x  network for my live and 192.168.2.x network for my virtual environment but will need to provide some routing for the 2.x traffic to the router at 1.1 .  I am considering setting up an additional virtual server to act as the router between the two networks as described here (http://www.sysprobs.com/guide-vmware-virtual-machine-lan-router-networks) ‌and using the F/W on the virtual server/router to restrict outgoing/incoming traffic to port 80 only - should that do the trick?

Hi , I've a problem with windows symbolic filelinks on a sharedfolder in a (ubuntu 16) linux guest. Symboliclinks for folders work correctly inside the sharedfolder, but there is a problem with symbolic links to files . In my older (ubuntu 12) guest, im able to symlink a file in windows and use the symlinked file in the sharedfolder on my ubuntu guest. i.e:   i've symlinked "test.txt" to "symlink.txt" on my windows host.. and im able to read  the content of symlinks.txt in my ubuntu 12 guest without a problem. Now if i do exactly the same in my new ubuntu 16 linux guest.. symlinks.txt is empty..  no error.. just a empty file.    but.....  if i edit "symlinks.txt"  and save it inside my ubuntu16 guest.. The contents of "test.txt" is overwritten. Again, windows symlinked folders inside the sharedfolder on my ubuntu 16 guest are working correctly but symlinked files are not.. it looks like im able to write content trough the symlinked file but im not able to read it. I am using Vmware Workstation Pro 12.5.2 build 4638234 on a Windows 10 Host. Both my ubuntu 12 and my ubuntu 16 guest using the lastest vmware tools.. My guess  it has something to do with the workings of vmhgfs on ubuntu 16..

What I also learned in the process is that if on initial hard disk creation one chooses to pre-allocate the hard disk space, there is no way at a later date to make it smaller again, not even with this snapshot consolidation with the disk manager. In this case, I did still save space (since the snapshots caused the total used space to go way beyond the 40Gb limit and this process was able to bring the total space down to 40 Gb), but I could never go under the 40Gb for this VM. All good stuff to know.

Thanks Andre, I actually had called into support overlapping the time when you answered the question, and you were spot on. In fact I have gotten the Workstation Professional 30 day trial since the Player does NOT have Snapshot functionality, and I have done just what you say - merging to a single disk, works beautifully. I also played with snapshots and believe I have a full understanding of them - cool that you can not only snapshot a turned-off VM, but rather a Live running one and it saves the state perfectly - very very cool.. Marking you as solution, THANKS!

Hi, You also did check the 'replicate network state' checkbox like I said? That was a required step in order for vmware to know that the cable is unplugged and plugged back in. You also don't mention the guest OS you are using as that might be a factor as well. Normally you can request a new IP from the guest OS. In Windows from a DOS box (can put in a batch file if needed)   ipconfig /release   ipconfig /renew -- Wil
