I know this thread must already be out there somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. My apologies. Background (for those who care): I use Xbox music (Zune) because I get a friendly MP3 when I download and I've had a subscription for seven years now, so I'm grandfathered into the "10 free downloads a month" program with unlimited access to all music. It's a sweet deal and my Zune HD and Zune 30GB are still running strong so I have no reason to switch to iTunes. However, I also have an iPhone and want to be able to download music on Zune and sync it to all devices without an external hard drive needing to be present. This worked flawlessly when I had Windows 7 installed as a VM on my Mac and "Shared Folders" enabled. However, I have an old 2008 Macbook and, though it still holds its own, I decided to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp for increased performance. I am running Snow Leopard with Fusion 3.x and, as I mentioned above, Windows 7 (Professional) on a Boot Camp partition. I want to basically create a mirrored folder for music (which I download on the Windows OS) that I can access from both OSX and Win7 natively. I've read a lot about creating a 3rd partition with a FAT32 format (the 4GB limitation wouldn't be an issue since my primary concern is music files) and mounting it to both OS's. Sounds great, but Disk Utility won't create another partition (even an 8GB one), likely because I have a Boot Camp partition present? I have no desire to wipe Windows and start from scratch as I literally just got everything partitioned, installed and updated. There must be another way to do this. I've heard mention of somehow mapping an OSX folder as a network drive on the Boot Camp partition, but I can't seem to figure out how to get them to talk to each other as if they're separate machines on a network. I would gladly update to Fusion 5 for $50 if this issue has been resolved since the release of 3.x, but since the root of my problem is Mac's inability to understand NFTS, I don't find that likely. I'd prefer to be able to read & write both ways, but if there is a way for iTunes to just read the Boot Camp drive and access the music to upload it onto my iPhone, I could live with that. Thanks for reading all this (I think I have included all the details) and thanks in advance for lending a hand. Cheers, Logan

We have a .exe program which we would like to run from our iMac. Mac OS 10.8.4 with VMWare Fusion 6 trial and Windows 7. I found if I have a Windows files in a Share Folder, I can change the File Type to open with my Mac Applications like Excel or Word. Is there a way to open a Windows file ( Excel or Word ) outside the Shared Folder ? What do we need to run a .exe program from the Windows side ?

Yes, I realize that, and I didn't actually delete them, I just moved them out of the package file. I put them back after I tired it. I'm not new to all this. As an update, I reinstalled Fusion 6, and it's behaving as it did and not loading the VMs. Fusion 5 continues to operate as expected. Next I'm going to try running it from a different user login I keep clean for trouble shooting.

I posted the old school method because I have a OS X 10.8 Virtual Machine that vmware-tools-cli disk shrink / refuses to function in and there are no Snapshots, so that not the issue and VMware Tools are up to date, even uninstalled/reinstalled.  None of the disk commands will work so I assumed that it doesn't work in OS X.  So I just now created a new OS X 10.8 Virtual Machine, installed VMware Tools and low and behold it worked.  I'll have to examine the two Virtual Machine to see why one is working and the other is not!

Here is the log with the problem occurring.  If needed I also have the log from Fusion 5 that was successful in using all displays.

As it shows on the Virtual Machine's Display you enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key or select the Boot Menu by pressing the Esc key.  You have to click into the Display for it to accept keyboard input.  Additionally on a MacBook you may also need to press the fn key in conjunction with the F2 key depending on how you have Keyboard preferences set in OS X. Have a look at: Accessing the BIOS when the POST screen clears too quickly (1004129) BTW You're in the VMware Workstation forum and in the future for VMware Fusion you should be posting in VMware Fusion® (for Mac).

Not that particular problem but I can't download any VMWare 6 license via the myvmware portal.  I always get a "Error processing this request" when I click the download button.  Now I was able to install the product by using the trial link and but would really like the "light" package where the trial includes McAfee etc that I don't want.

Hello all.  First time poster here.  I had the same issue and fixed mine using part of the information above, but didn't get real in-depth with it.  I simply did the following: Disabled the Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X driver Upgraded my VMware Fusion 5.0.3 to 6.0 Deleted the existing Boot Camp machine in the Virtual Library When I went to create the new Boot Camp VM, there was no longer an exclamation point and the Continue button was no longer grayed out Booted the new VM, went through the upgrades and reboots required and everything went without a hitch No reboots, no complete deinstalls, and no manual folder deletions. Thanks to everyone for your help and advice.

It might be more helpful to diagnose if you had included some context to the issue, like did you just upgrade from one version of VMware Fusion to another and what versions, etc., etc! Without additional information all I can say is uninstall VMware Fusion, reboot, reinstall VMware Fusion. If need be, have a look at: Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838)

I am running Fusion 6.0 on MacOS 10.8.4 on a 2013 retnia macbook. The guest is Windows Server 2008. Using Windows Server 2008 running full-screen, there have been several times when browsing with Chrome that screen flickered as though the resolution was shifting. The first few times, the flickering ended with the system again running full-screen. The first two times it happened full-screen on the laptop alone. This morning it happened on my thunderbolt display. However, just now I had a case where the resolution dropped to a very low level (pixels nearly an inch across), and then back to about 3/4 of full screen resolution. Even though the resolution dropped, the display was still full-screen, and pixel for pixel (unlike immediately prior change where the pixels were grossly magnified). Because of the scaling, there were vertical black bars to the left and right of the guest desktop image. The indicated resolution at that point was 1920x1024 (or something close) and I changed the resolution back to 2560x1440 (native on the thunderbolt). Instead of the screen re-sizing back to full screen, the black bars persisted, but the displayed pixels became smaller (Fusion was trying to render 2560x1440 in the same screen space that is 1920x1024 natively). Has anyone else seen this behavior?
Worked for me, thanks.
I keep on getting this error message Version mismatch with vmmon module: expecting 279.0, got 271.0. You have an incorrect version of the `vmmon' kernel module. How do I fix this
I also have found the website's feature list uninformative. I will resort to downloading the trial to test it out and discover the "50 new features," but a simple list would be nice.
