Yes. All these files are part of a Virtual Machine. VMDK – VMDK files are the actual virtual hard drive for the virtual guest operation system (virtual machine / VM). VMEM – A VMEM file is a backup of the virtual machine’s paging file. It will only appear if the virtual machine is running. VMSN and VMSD files – these files are used for VMware snapshots. The NVRAM file is where that BIOS information is stored. VMX file – a VMX file is the primary configuration file for a virtual machine. The only disk mode that DOES NOT use a REDO file is the Persistent mode.

You need to setup: View Connection Server VMWare vCenter Server (View Composer optional. Applicable for Linked clone Pools) ESX Server Refer to the View documenation for creating different type of Pools and entitling users to Pools. View client has to be installed on the User's desktops. Launch View client and provide the Connection Server IP/FQDN, entitled user name and password to authenticate to the Connection Server. Select the Pool and click on Connect. You can choose either RDP or PCoIP protocol to connect to the View Desktops. Thanks, Uks

Please follow the steps mentioned in Upgrade Guide. They are pretty easy to follow. In brief: 1. Upgrade View Connection Server components 2. Upgrade View Composer 3. Upgrade vSpehere environment 4. Upgrade VMware Tools and the virtual hardware on all parent virtual machines, virtual machine templates, and virtual machines that host View server components such as View Connection Server instances. 4. Upgrade View Agent and Client components. Documenting your settings will be a good idea, so that your can recreate them if any problems. In case of Linked Clone Pools, upgrade agent in gold image and recompose pool with this gold image. KB 1022140 might be helpful for you to upgrade from ESX4.0 to ESX4.1 KB 1027095 might help to some extent. Thanks,

4.5 clients connecting to 4.6 broker will not automatically prompt you to upgrade to 4.6. Only 4.5 client feature will be available to the user. But it is possible through View portal https://<connection broker ip> If you use Internet Explorer and you already have View Client installed, if the version is the same as that on the client device, View Portal starts the View Client installed on the local system. If the version available from View Connection Server is newer than that installed on the client device, you can choose to upgrade. -uks

Power On Desktop when launched is available with View 4.6. When a user connects to their desktop, it will be powered on if it was powered off. In your case it's not working for some reason. You can set the Pool power policy as "Power off" in Pool settings and ask users to just "log off" instead of powering off their desktops. When they Logg off, their desktops will be powered off and powered on when log back in. If you are using a Floating pool, spare desktop count is maintained when users power off their desktops. Hope this helps. -uks

When you disconnect and logoff from a desktop, a new desktop with the same name (which gets deleted) is again provisioned. The desktop names will range from PView-01 to PView-10. After every logoff, a new VM with a new name getting created? For more details on naming pattern, please refer to "Using a Naming Pattern for Automated Desktop Pools" in View Admin Guide https://www.vmware.com/pdf/view45_admin_guide.pdf
Or else if you are only concerned about those 7 VMs and do not want to grow your pool automatically then you can create a manual pool and add those VMs to that Pool.
