yes i tried uninstalling/reinstalling tools, agent, etc.  i have narrowed it down to the latest ubuntu 22 update breaks the gnome display part of the agent when trying to run the agent VM in local user login only, not bound to AD via SSSD.  binding  to AD and reinstalling the agent with -A yes flags "fixes" it.  ubuntu 20 latest updates work fine.  here is a synopsis agent & client versions 2209 and  2212 behave the same way.  i have a ticket with vmware open and will update when fixed ubuntu 22 not updated - works open-vm-tools-desktop/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 2:11.3.5-1ubuntu4.1 amd64 [installed] open-vm-tools/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 2:11.3.5-1ubuntu4.1 amd64 [installed] glxinfo -B Version 22.0.5 ubuntu 22 updated - does not work open-vm-tools-desktop/jammy-updates,now 2:12.1.0-1~ubuntu0.22.04.1 amd64 [installed] open-vm-tools/jammy-updates,now 2:12.1.0-1~ubuntu0.22.04.1 amd64 [installed] glxinfo -B Version: 22.2.5 ubuntu 20 not updated - works open-vm-tools-desktop/focal-updates,now 2:11.3.0-2ubuntu0~ubuntu20.04.4 amd64 [installed] open-vm-tools/focal-updates,now 2:11.3.0-2ubuntu0~ubuntu20.04.4 amd64 [installed, automatic] glxinfo -B Version: 21.2.6 ubuntu 20 updated - works open-vm-tools-desktop/focal-updates,now 2:11.3.0-2ubuntu0~ubuntu20.04.4 amd64 [installed] open-vm-tools/focal-updates,now 2:11.3.0-2ubuntu0~ubuntu20.04.4 amd64 [installed, automatic] glxinfo -B Version: 21.2.6

heres my setup Connection server bound to an AD domain Ubuntu 22 esxi based vm running with viewagent installed The only way i can get a login session is to bind the agent vm to AD via SSSD i have tried installing the agent various ways both with SSO support and without.  the only combo i can get to work is with SSO support and agent bound to AD via SSSD. the symptom i get is the client screen is just black.  oddly enough, in horizon connection server console the event db shows a session for the agent vm but when i look at active sessions it does not show any for that pool or vm. my question is do i have to have the agent bound to AD?  i really just want to give the user a local login with no domain access.

my linux vm's running horizon agent 2209 did their monthly update/reboot this weekend including open-vm-tools.  after that i got the dreaded black screen on the client.  according to event db the session was opened.  tried reboot on both ends with no luck.  multiple users, multiple pools, all took updates and reboots.   i ended up completely uninstalling the agent, rm /etc/vmware and reinstall and that fixed it.   i am just in the eval process of horizon.  is this expected behavior?  i sure hope not

this forum was no help but i will post here for future seekers.   1 - when i start the vmware client on my laptop it comes up with some of the settings invisible except for the checkboxes The fix for this was to turn off Dark Mode on Ubuntu -->Settings-->Appearance   2 - I try to launch the desktop i get a black screen this was in fact a firewall issue with a misconfigured rule only allowing protocol in one direction.

This is a new (eval) setup for Horizon and linux desktops.   Horizon 2209 connection server with a manual pool with one ubuntu 22 vm set up as per vmware install docs Ubuntu 20 laptop with horizon client 2209 set up as per vmware client install docs both the client and agent installs completely successfully i can log into the connection server fine and i can also ssh into the vm with the agent just fine no firewalls when i start the vmware client on my laptop it comes up with some of the settings invisible except for the checkboxes i can connect to the connection server with the domain account ok but when i try to launch the desktop i get a black screen that disappears after about 30 seconds.  some of the settings are invisible on this as well. i am running gnome on both agent and client and both systems are fully updated and the /etc/vmware/viewagent-custom.conf has the proper SSO setting per docs i have attached both the pertinent sections of both the viewagent-debug.log as well as the vmware-horizon-client.log.  there is some suspicious stuff in there but not sure what is important.     i would appreciate any help as i really want this POC to work.   thanks
