Does anyone use drop ship provisioning for Windows devices?  Has anyone tried self registration?  Curious to know the success rate and if it's worth the effort to configure.  I don't see a lot of examples of its use within discussions and there's hardly any documentation online that isn't years old.

The section: "Verify That Software Distribution is Enabled", does not exist within the console.  Settings > Devices & Users > Windows > Windows Desktop > App Deployments = Does not exist in the current console.   The step: "Register Device in Workspace ONE UME Console", is before actual device registration in the context of "Self-Registration". Are you not supposed to add the device (register it) with a Workspace One account first when performing Self-Registration? Or are the tags sufficient?

Also, from the documentation (I've tried this exact example without success):  Important Folders such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, and AppData, are necessary for the OS to function correctly and they must not be specified as exclusions. If the trailing backslashes are not provided in the path when any of these folders are used, then the folder gets excluded and the OS might not function as expected. For example: exclude_uwv_file=\users\%username%\documents\\ In this example, if an end user creates a file or folder within Documents, the file or folder persists only for that session. When the end user logs off, the file or folder gets deleted. That's exactly what I want to happen, but no matter what the profile is corrupt after I logoff and login to another session.  I've created a simple Snapvol.cfg configuration file with that exact line in it. Then placed it in %SVAgent%\Config\Custom\profile\<Snapvol.cfg> and it corrupts the profile every time.
My thought is that the trailing "\\" are not doing what they're supposed to do, which is, if I'm not mistaken, create an empty "documents" or "downloads" folder on the profile writable, but omit cont... See more...
My thought is that the trailing "\\" are not doing what they're supposed to do, which is, if I'm not mistaken, create an empty "documents" or "downloads" folder on the profile writable, but omit content.  I believe the idea is that so when user signs into a machine again, those exist, and Windows doesn't throw a fit.  I just don't see how to get that to work correctly.

Here's a link that is basically the manual method of what I've described by integrating machine managers. This works if you DO NOT have central, shared storage.  Copying an AppStack to another App Volumes Manager instance (2107127) (vmware.com) Again, you cannot import until the old (copied) packages are in the NEW MANAGER datastore location.  If you can just integrate machine managers and use a centralized storage, it's a lot easier.

The import method works only once you've moved the application packages to the new datastore location used by the new instance of App Volumes Manager.  You can copy the packages from one location to another using WinSCP or SSH from the ESXi hosts. There's documentation on how to do this from VMWare and blogs somewhere out there on the world wide internet.  The following below worked for me, because each "machine manager" instance (vCenter) had access to a central storage where an app volume datastore already existed.  Old version 4, 2006 New version 4, 2303 On each version, add the relevant machine managers. I'm not sure if it matters if the machine managers (vCenter) are on the same domain or not. Once they're registered, on the NEW manager, go to storage and edit the datastore location to match that of the OLD manager (the one with your current app stacks). Then click rescan. It should, if I remember correctly, automatically start to populate the inventory, but if it doesn't, this is when you go in and "import" using the import function.  Go to Configuration > Machine Managers > click "Register Machine Manager" and add the second (or even the same) vCenter instance. Not sure how "official" this method is, but it worked for me. Also, there is the risk in "importing" the older packages that they get updated to the current versions of App Volume 4, 2303 as in my case, but so far, I haven't seen any problems.

We need to use App Volume writable profiles in our environment to make use of o365.  I've created a custom, 5GB, profile template. No problem here.  However, to save space on that profile disk we cannot allow basic user directories to be saved - like Documents, Photos, Downloads and so on.  I've reviewed over and over again the documentation to exclude these sections of the user profile, per VMWare documentation (they actually use "Documents" as a specific example), but it does not work. Either the user's profile breaks completely, and they cannot login, or the snapvol.cfg change does absolutely nothing.  What is frustrating about the documentation is the vagueness surrounding WHERE the snapvol.cfg files should be placed and what format the MODIFIED snapvol.cfg should take.  The configurations I've test are as follows:  ### FILE EXCLUSIONS ### exclude_uwv_file=\users\%username%\documents\\ OS=any  Placed in these locations as Snapvol.cfg:  %SVAgent%\Config\Custom\Snapvol.cfg (doesn't work)  %SVAgent%\Config\Custom\profile\Snapvol.cfg (doens't work)  %SVAgent%\Config\Custom\profile\Snapvol.cfg (doesn't work)  {Volume Root}\{Writable GUID} \Config\writable\Snapvol.cfg (doens't work)  For the sake of science, I've tested these with the default templates and its the same behavior.  Any suggestions? Are there better ways other than trying to use a custom Snapvol.cfg?  VMware App Volumes 4 Administration Guide - VMware App Volumes 2303

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe/c xcopy ... was the first thing I tried, before I just decided to launch xcopy directly. Same behavior.  I'm thinking I'll just manually put the file on the gold image for all the time it taking to figure this out.  I've been looking through the threads and it seems there are always problems with doing this kind of thing.  In the past I created similar commands with PowerShell, then wrapped it in .exe, but I was hoping to not have to do something like that and that DEM would just WORK.  Thanks for the input though.

When this has happened to me:  1. Make sure the shares for DEM are online and available and there is not a latency issue.  2. Make sure there are no tasks set that require a share to be present before execution (in other words, a task that doesn't have a timeout value and runs for a long time). I've done this by accident several times.  3. HUGE profile sizes - especially if you're importing and exporting at logon only, can take a long time.  4. Make sure you're not doing complete folder redirection for user profiles - it is not recommended. Use App Volumes instead.

I've configured an elevated task in DEM Manager 2303 (with corresponding agent installed).  The executable is: <full path>\xcopy.exe The arguments are: "source path" "destination path" /y If I open CMD (elevated) and run - xcopy.exe "source path" "destination path" /y - it executes without a problem.  However, in DEM it executes, but ultimately does nothing. I've set it to trigger after logon.  It opens xcopy.exe and then immediately exits.   When I run the task with FlexEngine:  "C:\Program Files\Immidio\Flex Profiles\FlexEngine.exe" -LaunchTask "NameOfTask" It does the same thing, briefly opens xcopy.exe and then exits, but doesn't do anything else.  Am I completely missing something here? I've spent a better portion of the day trying to figure out this otherwise seemingly straightforward and simple task.  The log says it has "Elevated task "Name of Task" x number of times" and otherwise shows no error.

That worked. I was really hoping to avoid the use of App Volumes to that extent, but it has - in just the brief testing I've done - performed the job.  Still not great for environments that can't utilize App Volume or have the additional storage capacity, but it works for me.  Even better than FSLogix. I didn't have to do group polices or anything, which is nice.  Thanks.
Yes, o365 is on the parent image.  I was hoping to see how App Volumes profiles could/would/should work with Office 365. As you mentioned, the article is old, so it's probably irrelevant now.

I had this happen to me recently, turned out to be a drive mapping situation.  Anytime you reference an object, like a script, on a remote drive that might not exist, always include a timeout period.  In fact, any setting that allows a timeout period, use that timeout period. Otherwise, login times will take forever as it tries to complete a task.  It might not be what you have going on now, but just thought I'd throw that in there.

Does anyone have a working solution for o365 on non-persistent VDI?  This seems to be a unicorn situation as far as I can tell. It's also a topic that, judging by the posts, hasn't been revisited in years. Which makes me think either people just gave up, or it is simply not possible.  I've tried so many DEM profile configuration combinations, even tried FSLogicx, and still nothing seems to work right.  The closest I've got to it "sort of working" is what is referenced in this thread here:  DEM template for Office 365 is insufficient - VMware Technology Network VMTN No matter what, users are asked to sign in every time they get a new desktop. Does anyone know how to force DEM profiler to create a new Office 365 profile?  I really wish they would let users re-profile Office products and not just say, there's already a profile for that! Because clearly the profile provided by default does absolutely nothing to address the need for persistence with o365.

This link, https://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-31399, does not work. It is the ONE THING I wanted to view in this entire article and it does not work. Any suggestions? Integrating Office 365 with non-persistent desktops is turning out to be a real nightmare. I've spent weeks trying to integrate this software, but the activation process is too inconsistent. I have found nothing online that is a fool proof solution. No matter what configuration I make, it always asks users to sign in again after each session. This seems to be the case with almost every thread on the subject. I've tried a variety of GPO, DEM, and FSLogix configurations. None of them work right.

I feel all of your pain.  I am working on a solution for our group, which is nearly identical to what you're experiencing.  FSLoigx is going to be of little help. In order for it to work properly, as of Feb '23, you need to have your ICs "AADJ" or "HAADJ" (hybrid azure ad joined).  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/troubleshooting-known-issues "Virtual machines, which are AADJ or HAADJ create the user's primary refresh token (PRT) at sign-in. Primary refresh token(s) created at sign-in are used to authenticate to Azure AD based applications. Standard Domain Joined (DJ) virtual machines don't create a PRT at sign-in, instead rely on the Microsoft Azure AD broker plugin."  I've tried it again with this GPO setting: Install FSLogix 2210 hotfix 1 (2.9.8440.42104). Configure the new RoamIdentity setting by setting the registry value to 1 or enabling via Group Policy. But no luck.  DEM is mostly useless with regard to roaming o365 profile, but I have got it to work using this profile: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/Dynamic-Environment-Manager/DEM-template-for-Office-365-is-insufficient/td-p/2899781 However, it is not "user friendly" and requires signing into Outlook/Teams, signing out, signing in again, then hoping the license file is there when signing back in again. It's VERY CLUNKY, but it does kind of work.  Look at the post by Lansti.  The other thing that I've been trying to do, but have not been successful with, is trying to PREVENT office from recognizing the "signed in user" (and it's user token) when first opening the application. This plays a part in how well DEM/FSLogix stores the profile/license information and more importantly, what account is seen when o365 opens. However; it is not possible to remove that setting - at least that I've been able to find. It's a "feature" to make it easier to use the o365 applications.   Also, a site I reference often with this setup is here: https://www.stephenwagner.com/2021/08/06/microsoft-office-365-vdi It's a pretty good guide. I've had the most luck with this over anything else, but like I said, it's still clunky, and every time MS updates o365, less and less stuff works right.
