Thank you for the answer and tips. Elevating child processes was my issue on the test pool I was using. As you mentioned, I was writing to HKU as a test, I don't think it would have any effect. I appreciate your time. As it turns out in my prod pool, my DEM agent was not v10 as I thought, so that also answers my question.

I am trying to use DEM (v2006) to write to the HKLM and HKU hives when a user logs on. I've created an Elevated Task like this: >Executable: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe >Arguments: /c REG ADD "HKLM\path to the key" /t REG_SZ /v NewValue /d 2 /f >I checked the Run Async check box. There is a logon task to run the elevated task which should run after profile import, run asynchronously. I've tried putting quotes around the registry path and it doesn't help. Problem - it does not fire and I see this logged: [ERROR] Invalid settings for privilege elevation (TheTask.xml') [DEBUG] Skipping disabled DEM privilege elevation setting ('TheTask.xml') [INFO ] No privilege elevation settings applied I have verified that Privilege Elevation is enabled in the Global Settings section in DEM. I need some ideas on where to check and troubleshoot. I followed this article to the letter and I just can't get it to work. https://www.vjal.nl/dynamic-environment-manager/using-the-new-elevated-task-feature-in-dem-to-manage-registry-keys-in-hk…
Thank you for that reply. Am I correct that the VSG (not VCS) is the intermediary connection between internet clients and the VM desktops on PCoIP or RDP? Thanks again.

We are running vSphere v5 with View v5 and are beginning discussions on adding a view security gateway (VSG) along with a dedicated view connection server (VCS) to accommodate remote devices on the internet (I will refer to it as AOL). At the moment they must use an SSL VPN to connect and then access View. My question: I see from the deployment guide and some other research that the HTTPS and PCoIP connections are routed through the VSG to the vm desktops, however I read in two places which have conflicting information about how the RDP client traffic is routed. I hoped to see that RDP is tunneled through the VSG and then routed to the VM rather than the remote (AOL) client trying to directly send RDP traffic to a vm desktop? We have some HP t5545 thin clients out there (and some other thin o/s devices) that will use RDP to connect and I can't ask my security folks to open up RDP from AOL to my vm desktop subnet. Can someone clarify this behavior for me? Thanks

Thanks for taking a look at my question. As a test, in View Manager 4.0 (build 4.0.1-233023) I made an Automated, Persistant Pool with 3 vCenter desktops. Provisioning is automated as follows: Number desktops min: 3 Number desktops max: 3 Number desktops available: 1 View Manager provisions the desktops as expected. I then have three users log on to the three desktops and log off, at this point I look in View Manager and all three have been assigned but are not in use. When a fourth user attempts to log on with View Client there is a warning that there are no desktops available. I am trying to get a pool where the users are assigned to a desktop but if a desktop is needed, one of the assigned desktops is unassigned and allocated to the new user. On page 80 of the View Manager Administration Guide, under Automated Desktop Pool>Provisioning>Advanced Settings, I see this: "Number of available virtual machines—The number of virtual machines that must be unassigned and available for use at any given time. This figure cannot exceed the maximum number of desktops available to the pool overall." Why, in my test, does View Manager not unassign any desktops that are assigned but not connected (in use)? I suppose if my pool was larger this setting is so View will create an extra, unused desktop to have available(?) Is there a way to accomplish my goal? Thanks.
