Thanks for all the replies. I wish I could say it was something spectacularly difficult, but it turns out the security engineer fat-fingered one of the ACLs on the firewall. The pool now composes just fine. However, when attempting to log in the connection starts to go through and then I get the error below. I am going through the logs, but if anyone has seen this before I will take any suggestions. Edit: to clarify, this is what I am seeing in the View Manager console: "No co-management availability for protocol PCoIP"

Thanks for the response, I will look at that KB. The machines can reach the AD server, as well as the KMS server. Through the pool configuration, they are actually successfully joining the domain and rebooting; it is just after this point they hang. Also, in just moving a VM to that VLAN I am able to manually join the domain.

I am trying to spin up a new pool for a specific use case, and am running into some issues. I am hoping someone can offer suggestions. The pool is on a secure VLAN with very little access to the outside world. The security engineer created a full ACL to allow all traffic between the vCenter server and this VLAN for Composer activities. When attempting to spin up the pool, I see the template cloned and the machines successfully created. The machines are joined to the domain (I can actually see the objects in A.D), but that is the point where they hang. If I log into one manually as the local admin, I am immediately presented with a Windows prompt to reboot to complete changes. However, even doing this does not allow the machine to move beyond the customizing phase. We are using KMS for Windows activation through the QuickPrep, but I have confirmed from within one of the created VMs that I can telnet to the KMS server on that port, so I don't believe it is that. Just in case, I set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmware-viewcomposer-ga\SkipLicenseActivation registry key to 1. However this does not seem to have helped any. If I move the pool back to our normal VLAN it spins up just fine, but our security engineer swears he is not seeing any traffic failing between vCenter and the secure VLAN. Just curious if anyone has some suggestions on what to try next, or has seen something similar.

We have recently begun a project to support off-shore developers through VDI. The developers will be coming from overseas through a VPN to a third-party data center in southern U.S., then using the View Client to attach to their VDI instance. I was asked the recommendations on bandwidth for their connections, but haven't been able to find anything concrete that states something along the lines of "for best user experience you should have x-level connectivity or xMBps". Also of concern will be latency. Does anyone know of any technical guides for this information?

Thanks for the input, I found the path and commented it out. I now see several HKCU entries that are not captured. At present I am not using writable volumes, just AppVolumes to deliver the application stack. Am I going to have to resort to adding a writable, or can AppVolumes be directed toward the user hive?

I have just completed a migration to View 6, and have begun my foray into App Volumes. I had a question regarding what I can and cannot capture, as I have an application that I have yet to be successful with. The application places a number of files in the directory C:\Windows\Registration. App Volumes seems not to see this, even after multiple reboots and launches during the capture process. For this reason, every time the end user launches the application from the stack it runs a repair on the MSI. I am just curious if there is a way to ensure this directory is captured, or if there is another method that would fall under best practices that I should be looking at. As an alternative I have ThinApp'd the application, but it starts very slow. I am hoping to find a resolution so I can include it natively in my app stack.

I am in the midst of standing up a new VDI environment to migrate from the current View (5.3) to 6. I was speaking with a vendor we have engaged to help with some of the configuration, and he mentioned off-hand that it was best practice to load Composer onto my vCenter server. Now, I know I can do it either way, but I have not been able to find any documentation stating that this configuration is best practice, or outlining the benefits of doing it this way rather than separate servers (aside from the obvious MS licensing costs, compute resources, etc. of having another server). Can anyone speak to this, and direct me to any official documentation that would back this statement up?
Just an update, I have been testing and have found a number of groups in other OUs that work just fine. But anything under this AppSec container does not seem to work.

We're using Horizon View 5.3.0 in one of our environments. I have noticed some inconsistencies when setting entitlements on pools. The majority of our A.D. groups are in a container called Security Groups. If I create a group here, and entitle it through the View Manager, everything works as expected. If, however, I create the group in another container in A.D., the View Manager can see the group, and entitle it to the pool, but Members of that group cannot see the pool when logging into the View client. If I move that group into the Security Groups container though, everything begins working as I would expect. Is there a setting or reason why View Administrator can see but not properly assign rights to a group in certain OUs? Everything I've read shows it shouldn't matter where the group resides in A.D.

I am looking at adding a dynamic pool to our current infrastructure, to support our meeting rooms. I am looking for a way to force these machines, regardless of the user, to connect to a certain pool. The users logging in will likely have entitlement to other pools, but if coming from this particular hardware, I would like them to only see the one. Is this at all possible?

I have two View environments set up, different versions (5.1.2 and 5.3.0). The old environment housed our XP machines, while the new all of our Windows 7 machines. I am looking, now that we have done away with the XP pools, to delete this environment altogether and get it upgraded. However, another admin created a single, static Windows 7 Developer Workstation in the old environment by mistake. The machine has since been heavily configured, and has a number of snapshots for different development activities. I am wondering if there is an easy way to migrate this machine from the old environment to the new, rather than having to try to recreate it from scratch. I should add, not sure if I should be posting here or if another forum (vSphere?) would be more appropriate.

I recently completed a rollout of the Security Server, and was encountering this exact issue. For me, it was a single check box that I failed to check. In the View Administrator web console, under Servers,  on the Edit Page of your main Connection Broker, both check boxes need to be selected (see screenshot). Hopefully this is as easy a fix for you as it was for me.

We encountered similar issues, with profile redirection and a few other policies. The resolution we went with was to set a LOCAL policy in the golden image under Computer Config>>Admin Templates>>Logon>>Always wait for the network at computer start up and logon. Enabling this policy waits for Group Policy to refresh before the user logs into the machine.

I had hoped an upgrade to View 5 would resolve this issue, but it does not seem to have helped.      As a test, I went to a site I know will cause the windows to resize (Youtube), let it do its thing, and then saved that profile as the default user. Now, when a new user logs in and hits a site with embedded video, their windows no longer resize. However, instead of the screen going black for a few seconds only the first time, it does this every time.      Still curious if anyone else is seeing this through a PCOIP session. I also see this if I go into the vSphere client and console to one of the machines, which is very strange.
Thanks for the response. This seems only to be a PCOIP issue. When connecting via RDP, I do not encounter this behavior.

We are currently running about 100 desktops in a View 4.5 dynamic pool setting with the Samsung NC240 monitor to connect. I have noticed an issue in all of our XP SP3 VMs which I have yet to find a resolution to. Whenever a user visits a website with embedded flash content, the screen will flash for a second. When it corrects itself, the windows of most any opened application will be rearranged, usually minimized down. I have attached a few screen shots for reference. This seems to happen whether I connect to a session through the Samsun monitor, or from a regular XP box running the View client. I'm just curious if anyone has seen this type of behavior, or has any clue as to what might cause it.

This appears to be resolved, for me at least. We are using the Samsung NC240 zero clients. A firmware upgrade allowed me to change the display setting on the client from "Native" to what the end user wanted (24" monitor at 1280 x 1024 - enough to make your eyes bleed). The setting seems to be holding through a logoff/logon.

Thanks for the quick response. I have something similar in a KIX script on login (I would prefer to use VB, but our profile management tool only handles Kix). The problem I run into, however, is that the users then need to readjust their resolution on each login. Seems to me there should be a way to save this once I set it.

I know this question has been asked before, but I have yet to find a solid solution. The last activity I saw on this was in October of 2010, so I thought I would begin anew rather than resurrecting an old thread. Please see the problem description below.      We have a number of XP VMs configured in a dynamic pool for our users. The pool settings are set to allow a maximum of 4 monitors, with a max resolution of 1920 x 1200 on each monitor. Users report that when they log in and attempt to change the resolution, the Settings tab in the display properties page is gone.      Through researching this, I have stumbled across VM KB article 1020809,  updated less than a month ago, that details a fix for this issue (changing the NoDispSettingsPage registry value to 0). I have done this on my master template, however when the users log in it is set back to 1.      There was also a thread in this forum that suggested changing the Multi-Monitor option in the Pool Settings back to 1, letting vCenter update, then changing it back, and then doing a shutdown and startup on all the machines. I tried this as well, but it did not resolve this issue.      Lastly, I tried to DISABLE the Hide Settings Page option in Group Policy, but the setting stays at 1. I can change the screen resolution through a script (it doesn't persist through a logoff/logon, which is another matter), but cannot get the Settings tab to show up.      I see there is an adm template for Vista or Windows 7, but am I correct that there is nothing more that can be done for XP? I cannot figure out why this keeps getting set back to 1, and am hoping that my users are not going to all be stuck at a resolution of 1920 x 1200. As a secondary note, if I change it programmatically, what key(s) do I need to capture to have it persist through a logoff (we are using a third party profile management tool call ProfileUnity)?      Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Here is a link to what we ended up doing. In short, I ThinApp'd the View 4.5 client, as well as our SSL VPN connection, and delivered them on a USB stick. It works well; the only thing you lose is USB redirection. http://communities.vmware.com/message/1670272#1670272 We're also working on embedding a link to the ThinApp'd View client right in the home page of our VPN portal. I'm about 90% of the way there. This will give our users the ability to "bring your own PC", without the need for the USB stick.
