I evaluated the Trend product with a largebank and it certainly looks good from a non-security person like me. However having spoken to a lot of the other AV vendors they are holding off on developing a product until vShield 2.0 API is available later this year as they don't believe 1.0 is secure enough. This could be FUD by the AV vendors but interested to hear if anyone has evaluated it fully from a security aspect? Its no good running an AV product which saves load of compute resources, if it isnt finding viruses!!

I Had this same issue. It was originally caused because the service account that View was using to conenct to vcenter had expired. I changed the account to a new service account with a non expiring password, and View appeared to connect to Vcenter correctly and new pools provisioned fine. However, existing pools were still not provisioning. I changed the original service account password back to what it was and these pools started working. So View must keep the login details for the pools somewhere inaccessible. I will log a call with Vmware to find out
No unfortunately I still have the problem. The appearance is fine, no flickering really so it may be a separate bug.

Updating the driver hasnt worked for me - has anyone else resolved this issue differently? I have tried removing and reinstalling VMTools which has made it worse. I only got the warning message before but now I get the black screen and powerpoint crashing. VMTools are 8.3.2.1593 SVGA Driver: 11.6.0.37
Failing that, VSI from loginconsultants is very good and is fast coming the industry standard benchmark for VDI and Terminal Server workloads.

I need to ThinApp an older version of Thinapp, but I also want to apply the relvant Office settings via GPO. However there are multiple GPOs which apply depending on what groups the user is in. So its imposible to create the standard settings within the thinapp. How have you guys handled this before? My first idea is to simply apply as many GPOs as possible, but then the group-dependant differences are lost and also future GPO updates require the Thinapp to be modified. My second idea is to write a wrapper or script within the Thinapp so on launch it queries for group membership and applies the applicable registry settings to match the relevant GPOs, but this sounds horrible to manage going forward, effectively replicating GPOs into a script.

I am having some problems with Thinreg registering THinapps from a CIFS share. Thinreg is running as a login script to register the thinapps and the start menu items appear, but the file associations are not working. if I run the login script or the thinreg commands manually again the file associations work mostly, but sometimes they still dont register. has anyone seen this problem and found a fix?
No, believe the documentation, it needs AD.

I am interested also to hear people's opinions of how to use LInked Clones. I dont like the idea of using Linked Clones for ongoing persistent desktops. The thought of applying Service packs and updates to each linked clone on an ongoing basis scares me and of course the advantages of linked clones are then reduced due to the linked clone file sizes growing. At this time I only use Linked CLones for non-persistent desktops, so when the user logs off, the LInked CLone is destroyed and a new clean Linked Clone created. If persistent desktops are required I use traditional full-fat VMs. Interested to hear if people don't agree with me.

I create a blank VM from a template, and install any AV software that the destination machines will have then install THinApp. I then create a large second VMDK for storing Capture files on and make this an independant persisten disk in the Vm settings. I then shutdown the VM and take a snapshot. This way I can revert to the snapshot after every build to ensure a clean image but the capture and output files are all stored on the data drive so if I need to rebuild anything all teh data is there without going through complicated installs again

I have created some ThinApps for testing and getting reports where I need to change settings of the application. Do I need to restart the capture process from the start or is there a way to reference a previous snapshot, make the changes in the app if its already installed on the build machine and just perform a final snapshot to calculate the differences to build the ThinApp?

I have configured View Manager as a web resource through a Juniper device so users can access View dessktops remotely. This works fine for computers that already have the View client installed. however computers that dont have the client are unable to download and install the client via the Juniper box. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Can I setup the View manager webpage as a "Published Application" so that I can simply click on an icon to launch. This will allow the use of non-corporate laptops to use a remote desktop.

Has anyone setup VMware View 3.0 or 3.1 for secure access through a Juniper SSL Device? Do I need to create a Secure View Manager or can I jsut point the Juniper to the View Manager instance? Not sure how these Juniper devices work so if anyone has done it I would be interested to hear best practices. Also I know the Juniper will do an end-point analysis to detect that AV is installed and up to date etc. Is it possible to limit the USB redirection and client drive mapping to a View desktop based on the results of this scan? THanks
Hey CHandler! Not sure on the licensing question but you can use any remote control software such as VNC, LANDesk Remote Control, PCAnywhere etc. VNC is free though

I have setup various ThinApps and store these on a fileshare and create start menu shortcuts to these applications. How can I prevent users from copying these ThinApp applications to a USB key to running at home? Are there any settings to secure THinApps to be only run on certain machines/domains IP addresses etc?

I've been getting the same issue with flash animations maxing out the CPU. I tried using the XenDesktop broker which uses ICA but this doesnt make any difference. I cant understand this as the CPU on a physical machine running Flash rarely gets above 10%, tried giving CPU and memory reservations etc. I am using Buslogic drivers but cant see why this would affect Flash performance as it shouldnt write to disk. Will try to use LSILogic anyway
