Wondering if anyone can help, we are looking to introduce Brother PT-700 label printers into our environment, we currently use HP T310 Zero Clients and Windows 7 x64 desktops, we want to connect the printers locally via USB. I can install the printer onto my own VDI desktop using the drivers provided by Brother and I can print fine. The issue we have is, we run a linked clone environment where the VDI desktops refresh every 7 days and the users do not have administrator permissions to install any drivers/software themselves plus we would prefere to do it ourselves. I planned to install the printer and driver onto the main golden image so all the users have to do is connect it up, the printer/drivers will already be installed plus the virtual printer port for USB will have already been created. The issue we have is that it's not working, users can connect the printer, it recognises the printer because it also maps a drive containing Brother Ptouch software but the printer remains offline, we can re-create the printer locally using the virtual printer port and still it remains offline. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, the only thing I can thing of is that when the virtual printer port is created on the golden image it's mapped to that specific instance (if that makes sense?) of the printer? That port does not even list as available ports until I actually install the printer drivers onto the golden image or my test VDI desktop. I don't think this is an issue with the zero client or USB mapping etc due to the fact I can install and use the printer with no problems on my own VDI desktop. I've got a feeling this will only work if the users themselves install the printer/drivers and connect it up during the installation process (midway through installation of the printer/drivers it asks for the printer to be connected via USB before proceeding, on the golden image install I do that myself), at which point it will create the virtual printer port for USB. Issue with that is, they would need permissions to do that and every 7 days that would need to re-install it. Any help appreciated.

Hi, Wondering if anyone has come across the problem we are experiencing, we like to reboot our print server overnight to clear down any issues with the print spooler, it enables us to clear down any stuck print jobs etc. Up until the past month we could do this causing no problems but recently the following day after a print server reboot we have noticed calls being logged where users printers are not being mapped on logon (we have a simple batch start-up script for this), investigating further it appears the local print spooler will not work until the VDI desktop is reset or we manually restart the local print spooler service, this only happens after a print server reboot which is done out of hours, if this was happening during working hours I can foresee how this might cause problems but I dont understand why it would be effecting local print spoolers on the VDI desktops. Any idea? We are running a VMWare View 4.6 environment, print server is setup on Windows 2008 32-bit Std. Regards, Ross

In the end it was me misunderstanding the session duration under the Sessions tab against the pool, the duration includes the time at which they logged in for example if they logged in and worked for say 10 hours and then disconnected and your Automatic logoff after disconnect is set to 120 minutes the duration would run up to 12 hours, so if they logged on for 24 hours and disconnected eventually the duration would tick over to 2 days if Automatic logoff after disconnect is set to 1440 minutes, hope that makes sense
Yeah we do, it's currently set to 12 hours, this appears to be working fine apart from the day long sessions which appear. I'm wondering if this could be a VMWare Agent issue on the desktop, anyo... See more...

Hi, Wondering if anyone can help, we are experiencing desktop sessions which are going over our allocated time of 120 minutes for session duration. The users are connecting via VMWare Client 4.5 using Wyse Winterms S30. I have just  started to investigate this and the only factor I have noticed is that this is happening to users who are not logging off, whenever they finish for the day they just lock their screen but this shouldn't matter? It should just end the session no matter what? Regards, Ross

Just re-read your reply Lakshman because I have still not resolved my issue, when you say registered what do you mean? I thought you were referring to when it was streamed, we do not use thinreg or anything, all our applications we administer with view admin and stream to desktop, Office 2003 was streamed to the desktops before Office 2010, is this what you are refering to? Regards, Ross

Thanks for the quick reply, I thought this was probably the case but it doesn't explain how one user is still defaulting to Office 2003, this version was definately registered or streamed to the desktop before Office 2010 so Office 2010 should be the latest one. I will investigate further but just needed my initial question cleared up.

Hi, If I have a thinapped version of both Office 2003 and Office 2010 streaming to a desktop how does it decide which default version to use? (i.e. when opening a Word document from explorer), so far I have found it will use Office 2010 as default but I have one user which has defaulted to using Office 2003. Regards, Ross
Thanks for both of the replies, that's cleared things up for me, probably me being stupid but I was getting confused about where I actually run the sbmerge. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply Lakshman, the machine I thinapp with has no persistent disk, does not have the thinapp streamed to it and has only a local drive, I always revert to intitial image after finishing my thinapp but I still have my project folder with the build.bat file etc and the resulting program files (.exe, .msi) after build.bat is ran. Do I just copy this back to my thinapp machine? Putting the main project folder in the thinapp captures folder re-building and then making modifications and then doing an sbmerge? What is throwing me is the instructions to delete the %appdata%\thinstall contents, this wont exist on my thinapp machine so not sure what to do.

Hi All, Just messing around with sbmerge because I've been a bit slack with my updating of my current thinapps and getting tired of thinapping everything from scratch. I'm getting a bit confused on where you actually run sbmerge, I have an update I need to do for Office, do I update on my vdi desktop I have the thinapp streaming to then sbmerge? Because I don't have thanapp installed on it or do I update and sbmerge from my thinapp machine using the original Office project I created? The guides I have found mention about deleting everything from the thinstall folder in my sandbox but the sandbox would only be on my vdi desktop and not my thinapp machine. Hope what I'm trying to get at makes sense, just confused about where I run sbmerge. Regards, Ross

Hi All, Wondering if anyone can help, we are having issues with mouse cursors vanishing on our VDI desktops especially when the desktop has locked out and the user has to press ctrl + alt + delete. This is effecting our HP T5564 thin clients since we changed from RDP to PCiOP but the issue with the mouse cursor vanishing has always existed on the clients installed on our PCs and laptops. Our current environment is looking like this: - ESXi 4.1 - VCenter Server 4.1 - View Client 4.5.0 - View Agent 4.6 I have been reading through the follow thread: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/328752 Above thread has been useful but we are not currently in a position to be upgrading our VCentre Server to 5.0 mainly because of the upgrade process involved in upgrading our View Client's. But I have also noticed some people have upgraded their View Agent to 5.0 which has solved this issue, would this be compatible with VCenter Server 4.1? Or would that have to be upgraded also? Any help appreciated. Regards, Ross
Never ever got to the bottom of this problem, I just re-created my profile on my laptop and that fixed the issue but have never found out what was the cause of the problem.

Thanks for the reply but that was one of the first things I tried, it's all very weird considering I can still log on fine with 2 other browsers. One of the first things I actually did was to remove and re-install IE9, yesterday night I tried rolling back to IE8 and still the same issue occurs. Not sure what else to try.

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with View Administrator, within the past week I have not been able to log into View Administrator via IE9, after putting in my login credentials a box pops up with "Unable to connect to view connection server. Click ok to be redirected to the login screen". I can logon fine with both Firefox and Chrome, anyone else ever experienced this? I've reinstalled IE9 and Flash player and disabled all addons/plugins. It was working perfectly fine up until last week. Regards, Ross

Thanks for both of the replies, both have explained how I can implement what I need to do, it's just unfortunute I need to stream it to the whole pool no matter what. I don't really need to restrict access but more make sure the people who do need the thinapped application have it no matter what vdi desktop they are assigned. Thanks again for the replies. Regards, Ross

Hi, Hopefully someone can help, I have a quick question. Can you assign thinapps by user groups defined in Active Directory? At the moment we are assigning by pool or individual users depending on their needs. I ask because we have come across a situation where a user has lost their vdi desktop and are re-assigned a new one with a totally different desktop name, unfortunutely they lose whatever thinapp is assigned to them unless it has been assigned by pool because it's been assigned to desktop and not a specific user. Hi, Thanks for both of the replies, they helped explain the issue, I've chosen to go with option 2 and amend the reg. manually but for some reason it is still not working, I've tried a number of things including adding this to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: isolation_writecopy HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections   Value=ProxyEnable   REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00 The above has no effect at all, I've also tried adding the following to HKEY_CURRENT_USER: isolation_writecopy HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections   Value=ProxyEnable   REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00 Above also has no effect, but I've noticed in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER there is: isolation_writecopy HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings   Value=WarnOnIntranet   REG_DWORD=#00#00#00#00   Value=ZonesSecurityUpgrade   REG_BINARY=#c2#60#f6#1a#29#38#cd#01   Value=ProxyEnable   REG_DWORD=#01#00#00#00   Value=ProxyServer   REG_SZ~***************  Value=ProxyOverride   REG_SZ~*******************  Value=EnableAutodial   REG_DWORD=#00#00#00#00   Value=NoNetAutodial   REG_DWORD=#00#00#00#00 The above seems to already specify for proxy to be enabled, I've starred out some of our details. Am I using the incorrect key? or reg. value? Regards, Ross
