There is fling provided by VMware, You can try this. I haven't used it but looks like you cant directly upgrade from Windows based vCenter 5.5 to vCenter 6 appliance, You have to : 1. Deploy VCS to VCVA Converter Appliance. 2. First convert Windows vCenter 5.5 to vCenter 5.5 Applianace. 3. Upgrade vCenter Appliance 5.5 to  vCenter 6.0 Appliance, I suggest you to download reference document first and test migration before doing in production, Download Link : VCS to VCVA Converter – VMware Labs

Never see before such kind of error - can't say what exactly happens... You can avoid VC because after version 4.x (if I'm right) the ESX should not be contacted directly, the only one possibility is to detach ESX from VC before conversion... HTH

Thanks for the quick answer! I will most certainly try to do that. The only disadvantage is that we only have a few hours of downtime we can afford a week. So I have to wait untill next tuesday to try that. But one more question. I already tried to do the conversion twice for this machine, and it fails on the exact same virtual disk as the first time and at the exact same percentage. So could it be something with the source disk? And since you post network issues of the destination, is it a good idea to bypass the vcenter and set the esxi as the destination machine instead of the vcenter server? Thanks again!

There's no vijava for vsphere 6 in maven, long story short the APIs are baked in to the releases and the versions correspond to vsphere versions. I'd suggest using yavijava (Maven Repository: com.toastcoders » yavijava) as vijava seems to be dead at this point (at least when it comes to maven releases).

Yes, there is no support for RAID controllers due to many different issues, but once the volumes are read, then only driver should be removed (depends on driver - some of them fails, others not, when hardware is not present) on destination VM...

Thanks Iwan for responding to my IM! But I still dont get it totally, in this article you recommend to look inside the VMs, but that doesnt help me with capacity planning right? Also I am not understanding why the vCenter begun to balloon, compress etc. And last but not least why is it a problem to use the active/demand metric for Java/DB-VMs. Another thing: Why is vROPS using Active for right-sizing if this is too aggressive? Would be nice if you can elaborate a little bit more. Thanks! jengl

Thanks for your help.  I've been stuck on this for a few days now. One other piece of information, not sure if it would matter or not is that we use megasas2.sys drivers for our raid drives drives on this server.

Seems that you registry hives are at expected place, you can look for these filenames in %windir%system32\config. So the second option (i.e. combination of convert and reconfig) should be used. However before do whole conversion again - run Converter GUI 'As administrator' and try to reconfig again - sometimes access to registries is restricted to Administrators. HTH

I assume then with this hivelist, that changes will need to be made to it before attempting another conversion? Thank you
