I have this issue with Workstation 15 Pro (15.5.7) Lame. I have to copy the files to the Host desktop and then to the other VM,

"This really has nothing to do with VMware." Ok, ok, it just seemed like lot of folks here would be aware of how Windows 10 VM licensing worked as they are using VMware Workstation and maybe one or two people here knew how if/how it needed to be licensed. Seems silly to call a MS licensing rep for every little thing. I found a PDF that sounds great but good luck figuring it out.  Licensing Windows desktop operating system for use with virtual machines: https://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/d/98d6a56c-4d79-40f4-8462-da3ecba2dc2c/licensing_windows_desktop_os_for_virtual_machines.pdf
If no one here uses a Windows 10 VM, I guess?

I have a Dell laptop that came with a Windows 10 license. It seems reasonable to me that I should be able to run as many Windows 10 VMs as I want as long as I'm the only one using them and others do not access and can not remote into them. I have been using my full retail Windows 10 Pro for VMs on my Windows 10 Dell laptop. I just use them to isolate customers applications and the different development software and or versions each project needs. I've done some research and of course Desktop OS VM licensing is complicated and is all but hidden. Most just talk about VMs with a Server OS and that is pretty easy. Buy one Server OS license for upto 16 cores and you can run upto 2 VMs on the same ESXi host. The desktop VM licensing is a nightmare. You have OEM licenses that it looks like you can not use at all for VMs and then retail licenses that it looks like you can run one VM as long as no one accesses it remotely and then Windows Enterprise licenses that have different functionality and then are you running them on local hardware or on a third party hosting service and is it per device or per user and are use using Windows Software Assurance or Windows VDA subscription and on and on.  So... It looks like you can just get a full retail license and run local Windows 10 VMs and just have to mess with the fact that at any moment it will want to reactive as you've change the amount of RAM or CPUs and such. You may also need to buy on for each VM you want to run??? You can get a Windows Software Assurance or Windows VDA subscription for like $600 or so and have to pay each year but can run upto 5 Windows 10 VMs as you have to order 5 licenses minimum???
Well this sounds interesting. Did they ever fix it and how do you change existing VMs to use IDE or SCSI or NVMe? https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Workstation-Pro/NVMe-disk-vmdk-Slower-than-... See more...

"PCID/INVPCID features in the AMD CPU is likely the reason why it is slow" Maybe, I have nothing to compare it to.   "It isn't a fair statement to say that Hyper-V is better than VMware Workstation" Just wondering if I'd see a difference, I've seen some info on-line that suggest I may but I'd don't know and yes, I'd using the same hardware. My old Intel workstation is almost 10 years old so I'd hope it's slower and I'd hope if the AMD 5000 CPUs are (a lot, a little) slower at VMs there would be more chatter.

There is also some info about Intel CPUs taking a hit with there security patches. I don't know. Just wondering if there was a setting or setup that would improve performance and or if Hyper-V may work a little better?

I'm working with some Win Server 2019 VMs and an app that is, I think, hard drive I/O intensive. Most everything you do it's reading and writing multiple sets of data/files in an SQL database. I've seen it run in some demos and it's a bit faster than when I run it. Is there anything that can be done to up the performance on the VMs? In the demos they were running on Hyper-V on a contemporary Intel NUC, nothing fancy. I just finished a new build at the end of the year with a AMD 5950x, WD NS850 SSD and a RTX 3080. Whenever I upgrade I end up testing Workstation Unity mode and this is the first build were it's very usable. Still, the app in the VM is slow to respond. Does Hyper-V have a performance edge on Workstation 15? I've given the VM 4 cores and 12GB of RAM and the VM files are on a data drive that is not booting the OS.

I've updated to the newest version of Workstation on 3 PCs and this is the only one with this issue. I've checked two other Windows 7 hosts and one other Windows 10. They all work but the working Windows 10 is an older version of Windows 10. At some point the Dell Laptop that has the issue updated to the latest version of Windows 10 Preview. I looked and the errors all morning and could find nothing like what I have going on. Disabled all firewalls and enabled all file and print sharing. It's so odd that it is only between the laptops Windows 10 host and it's own VMs. Desktop PC to Laptop share = GOOD Desktop PC VM to Desktop PC share = GOOD Laptop to Desktop PC share = GOOD Laptop VM to Desktop PC share = GOOD Laptop VM to Laptop share = BAD!

In the Windows 10 setup I can ping the Windows 10 host by IP and name. It’s only after I try and browse for shared folders that I get an error. First “The network name cannot be found.” and then if I run the diagnose option “Windows can’t communicate with the device or resource”. Issues found Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (##########) It is available but is not responding to connection attempts. A firewall or network security policy on the remote computer might be blocking the connection on port "file and print sharing resource". Make sure that the device or resource (##########) allows incoming connections for File and Printer Sharing Completed

I have many virtual machines running on three PCs. When I copy one virtual machine to two of the PCs, on both it runs fine but on the one Workstation 9 crashes when I try to edit this virtual machine's settings. I get the virtual machine settings window and can sometime click on one of the hardware objects but then it locks up and I have to end task. I tried copying it again and running a check disk but no luck. Both PCs have the same and latest update of WS 9. ???

I just did a clean install and updated Windows XP and AutoCAD. The mouse movement is always smooth and when selecting icons on the desktop or using the left click on the desktop to make a bounding box again all is fast and smooth. Whenever I click on the AutoCAD window there is a small pause to everything in AutoCAD really. I’ve found many threads on the mouse movement being an issue and setting the “Optimize mouse for games” option to never being the fix. In my setup though the mouse movement is still very smooth and fast in AutoCAD but when you try to draw a bounding box it lags for a second and when you try to double click it lags for a second and so on. It makes getting any work done really painful. The PC is new so it really should be much faster than it is. Using Workstation 6.5 can I open two sessions in two different windows? I need to see one on each monitor so I can easily compare them. I can do it brute force by launching a second instance of workstation but then the tabs get messed up and it sometimes gives errors regarding ownership.
