You can download the beta from the vmware.com. On the disk image that is downloaded is the uninstaller.
Try deleting the directory starting at Boot Camp and further down (deeper). This should force Fusion to create the vmx and all the appropriate support files (including the vmdk).

As far as the 2 cores thing, you may need to re-install windows to get top performance out of it. Windows, when you install it, installs certain files depending on the hardware (sort of like whether a PPC or Intel version of OS X is installed when you install it). So it installs certain files that are optimized for single processor vs multi-processor machines. I tried not to make that explanation too technical.

We haven't exposed the UI for that yet. You will have to manually edit the vmx file. All this means is you need to find the .vmx file in the .vmwarevm bundle, and open it up in something like TextMate, (something that won't mess up line endings). You'll see a line with something.vmdk as the value. This is the line that points to the hard disk. Simply change the value to point (absolute path or relative path from the vmx) the other vmdk.

The difference is that in Parallels they open up a single app for every VM they run. Fusion allows you to run multiple VMs in the same application. Think of it like "Word". If you click on Word, the document you want to open doesn't open automatically, you have to tell Word which document you want to edit. As far as the mac is concerned, the VMs are just documents (documents that contain a config, a virtual disk, snapshot information, etc). So double clicking on a document, opens it up. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for using Fusion.

But this is a no no in the mac world. And we live in a mac world and I am.. oh wait. wrong words. Anyways, we are revisiting the launcher, to try and make it a much more usable solution. However, I (personally - and this may not be the final outcome), do not think the one dock icon for each VM is the right solution.

Hmm. I am curious as to what exactly is happening. Here is what I tried to reproduce it. Hopefully you can clarify if I am doing something wrong (since I am unable to repro the problem). I started up the guest. Once started, I brought down the settings sheet. I proceeded to add a shared folder, and click on choose. I clicked on my external hard drive to make that the shared folder. At this point, it's unclear what you meant, so I tried clicking into the host and then coming back to the guest. At this point I was able to dismiss the file open dialog. I also tried closing this dialog before clicking to the host. Neither was able to repro the bug.
Incorporating it into the Fusion Settings Window is a good feature request, and we'll keep that in consideration.

I don't know how to help you, but as you make progress, please keep us updated. Some information you might post, might let someone else know "oh hey, I think I know what happened". Thanks.

well, with regards to the window resizing thing, we're looking at it. Basically, we kick out of full screen whenever the full screen window gets moved. We are looking at improving this behavior, but I can't say much beyond that. The cmd-Tab thing you're talking about is unlikely. I say this because we are trying to be a good mac citizen and that means that we behave like other mac programs. But since you bring it up, we'll add to the list of things to revisit for future releases.

You may need to install the bootcamp driver for the bluetooth device. It's an Apple provided USB Bluetooth device (though it's internal, it's still a USB device) and like the iSight needs drivers for it. I am not sure why it works on XP, but not on Vista.

On OS X these are called "Bundles" or "Packages". They're basically folders with special extensions (as defined by various programs) that are treated as singular files by most of the user visible file browsing capabilities of the OS. In fact, some common bundles/packages are the applications you run every day. Mail.app, Safari.app are all "packages". Right clicking on them and selecting "Show Package Contents" or browsing to them using the Terminal will reveal their "folder-ness"

If you power off your VM (not suspend, but actually shutdown the guest and power off), the menu item in the "Virtual Machine" menu called "Upgrade Virtual Machine" will become active. Simply select that, and that should lead you through the upgrade process. It may take a few minutes, but once it's done, everything should be good to go.
Could you post the contents of the vmware-fusion.log? That would be useful as well as the crashlog if you can grab that as well.

So as far as the full screen menu bar thing... we are looking at ways to improve the interaction for this. It will not be fixed for 1.0, but if we fix it, we want to get it right, so we are making sure we get the right interaction model for the VM. We targeted Windows guests, but we are re-visiting the problem. If you have a second monitor, going full screen on the second monitor (move the single window over the second monitor then go full screen) will result in no menubar popping action. But of course, this requires that you have a second monitor.

You are correct in that the Applications menu does \_not_ update. The solution is to restart the VM. This is likely not to be fixed for the release, but we are looking at a better way to do this. There is a way to turn on the task bar, though this a config option in the tools (search the forums). This may solve your problem for now. I apologize for the inconvenience, and all I can say is that we are looking at ways to improve this

It sounds to me (and I'll email the QS developer about this) that the way QS launches the app gives it different permissions to create files. I don't know why this would be the case. I personally use LaunchBar, and have had no problems. I wasn't able to recreate your particular scenario with QS, but that may be because I am running as an admin user. I also looked through our code for that particular error, and I could not find it. I am honestly not sure exactly what is going on. I'm sure between the QS developer and us, we can figure out what the issue is. As I make any progress, I'll try to post here. We appreciate that you took the time to report the issue to us. We do want the process to be as seamless and as problem free as we can make it.
