Hello, I'm not sure whether the problem I'm running into is a problem of VM player or Linux Mint. After a kernel update on the Host system (Linux Mint 20.3) I started the Guest OS (Linux Mint 21.1). At the start of vmware it shows a message that some re-compiling were necessary. After that was completed I started into the Guest OS and it goes into the Linux emergency mode and basically I can't launch the guest OS the 'normal' way anymore. It creates a lck file in the vm directory. I not even can reboot vmware since it saying vm is busy. I'm hoping someone can help on this issue (or should I post it in a Linux Forum). TIA
The BIOS had an option called SVM mode (CPU virtualization). That was disabled, I changed the settings to 'enabled' and that did the trick. The vm's are now being launched again. Many thanks.

Some additional discoveries. the vmware.log file in the vm's folder shows an entry saying "/usr/lib/vmware/settings": No such file or directory." And this directory is really missing. I seems to be it has to be removed by "something" because it was working before. I'm wondering whether it would help to uninstall vmplayer but leave the virtual-machine intact.   I also installed a totally new vm (Linux) from the source ISO and this vm is also not launching. It shows the same behavior as the 'moved' vm's before. I'm quite puzzled. Cheers

Hi folks, I was using vmware workstation Player v 17.1 for several weeks now and it worked fine until this morning. I moved a vm to a new location on a M2.SSD (from a regular SSD). I opened  the vm file (a WIn10 guest) on the new location in vm player but it won't launch the virtual machine. (File -> Open a Virtual Machine (CTRL-O)) No message, no hint. the vm player just quit silently. Is there a way to resolve that problem? Any help is much appreciated. HOST OS is Linux Mint v20.3 Guests: Win10
Thanks, it worked just fine. Is there an explanation why those VM's disappeared from the GUI? Any mistakes perhaps on my side? Cheers
no suggestions from anyone?

Hello, I'm just started using VMware Workstation player.. I built a few (4) VM's on Linux Mint a few weeks ago (WIn10, Win11 and Mintv21). Overnight, suddenly I can see only one of the VM's in the overview. I verified the locations of the VM's and they are all still on the hard-drive location. I recently installed backup software (backintime) and started using it but I don't think that may have impacted the VM's. I'm not sure where the information are stored that is filling the VM main window with the listings of the VM's. Is it '$HOME/.vmware'? If I could identify the correct location and files, perhaps I could do a restore from my backup. Or is there another way to rebuild the listing of VM's? Is there a documentation about the files & locations on Linux? Any Help is much appreciated. TIA
