Tried apt-get purge open-vm-tools and then installed VMware Tools.   During the install this happened:   Before running VMware Tools for the first time, you need to configure it by ......   INPUT: [yes]  default Initializing... Segmentation fault (core dumped)     So not a good sign that it will work either.

I have a similar issue if a file from the host has the character  #  in it.   The entire file appears in  /tmp/VMwareDnD/FdZ2dN/test##.docx  (which was a symlink to /home/rbeede/.cache/vmware/drag_and_drop/EDcUpM/test##.docx   I can manually copy the file after that, but it is annoying.

VMware Workstation Pro 15.5.7 build-17171714 Ubuntu 20.04 desktop guest VM with open-vm-tools I am able to get a consistent crash of my VM with this log error: I005: FileIOCreateRetry: CreateFileW() returned ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION, failing with FILEIO_CANCELLED   Steps to reproduce On Windows host create a folder Create and save an Excel xlsx inside that folder Keep the Excel file open Right click to copy the folder from the host Attempt to paste the folder into a sub-folder on the guest VM My mouse went erratic and within 30 seconds the vmx just crashed (instantly appeared powered off, no guest shutdown or guest crash)   Did not help Uninstalled open-vm-tools, re-installed, rebooted, paste still crashed Uninstalled open-vm-tools, installed vmware-tools, Segmentation fault during install, finished install, rebooted, paste still crashed
