hello: i am having an issue with vmware tools (installed are open-vm-tools & open-vm-tools-desktop) not updating in ubuntu 22.04.3 lts. v12.3.0 for these tools was identified as resolving vulnerabilites, but guest tools are not upgrading from 12.1.5.3 along with other guest system packages during apt updates. any help would be much appreciated. thanks, js
techno: thanks for your reply. i have shut down the guest (and alternately also fusion, too) and the .vmx is consistent. i will attach the .vmx for your inspection. thanks, j

hello: i have a windows 10 professional guest running on vmware fusion 13 on macos. according to windows' task manager the guest os only sees two logical processors and i am trying to add additional cpu processing to it. i understand that the configs (specifically the .vmx file within the guest bundle) need to be changed to include verbiage similar to this: numvcpus = "4" cpuid.coresPerSocket = "4" i have been able to "show config file in finder" (and also copy and edit the file from within the guest bundle) and open the .vmx in macos's textedit, but the contents of the file are not what i expect. in reviewing other .vmx files within this forum i expected to see individual lines defining the guest's configuration, including cpu, etc. instead, there are only a few statements (encoding, displayname and two long sets of statements regarding encryption- encryption..keysafe & encryption.data). there are no references to cpu or other configuration items. also, after i make changes the guest will not boot. am i editing the right file? is this config data stored somewhere else? thanks, j

hello: i am running an ubuntu (20.04.3 lts) guest in vmware fusion. at some point during recent fusion updates (12.1.2, 12.2.0, 12.2.1) the guests sound card quit working when set to "system defaults". the soundcard works properly using each individual setting option within the guest "settings", just not as "system defaults". the host system soundcard settings work fine for all output methods. i have tried restarting and removing/reinstalling the soundcard- no luck. interestingly, it appears that changing the sound output on the host to another output and back clears the problem and makes "system defaults" work properly. i have another guest running another linux os which is unaffected when running its soundcard as"system default". help?!?! thanks, j
