Hi Jen2, I am sure I have modified the file in the following directory: C:\Windows\SysWOW64. I found the directory via Task Manager and the process with the high processor load. As you know, you can see the path to the executable under Details. Replacing the file can only be done after successfully stopping the service in the Service Manager. Since I did this, I have no more problems. As soon as I copy the original file back from VMware Workstations pro 17.5, the problem reappears. Greetings from Hanover, Germany, Peter
The vmnat.exe posted by Enthusiast is code-signed by VMware. At least a strong sign for being OK.

I just upgraded to VMware® Workstation 17 Pro version 17.5.0 build-22583795. Since then my system has a high processor load due to the file vmnat.exe (version from 10.10.2023, digitally signed by VMware). One processor core is 100% utilized. I did not find anything in this direction in the release notes. What can be done about this? With best regards from Hannover Germany, Peter Lippolt

Your Windows 11 plans for the future: Fast Encryption  With the new ‘fast encryption’ mode, only the most critical parts of the virtual machine’s local storage space are encrypted, dramatically improving overall VM performance but providing a secure enclave for sensitive data such as a TPM device. Fast Encryption can be enabled for all VM types from the VM Settings. > Encryption window, or during the New VM walkthrough. Encryption Key Auto-Generate and Store To enhance the new fast encryption model, Workstation can auto-generate a password for the user, and the local keychain is used by default to store the encryption key, relieving the user from having to type it in whenever their VM boots.   I still have a problem with the planned scenarios for Windows 11: as far as I understand it, I can either create a normal, completely encrypted guest, for which I know the password, but have to enter it at every startup, or I use the autogenerated password which is stored in the local key store, in which case I don't have to enter this password every time, but don't know it either. What will happen if in the second case I want to copy the guest to another computer and start it there? I don't know the password, and I can't get to the password in the initial local keystore. So I have no chance to use the guest on another computer. I would find it extremely nice if the autogenerated password would be displayed at least once during generation, so that you can save it if necessary. After transferring the guest to another computer, it should be possible to store the memorized password in the local keystore on the new computer. So far my questions to the topic. Are there possibly other solutions to use the fast encryption without having to enter the password every time and still be able to transport the guest machine to another computer as usual for VMware guests? Many thanks, Peter

Hi, I did try to reinstall, with and without the enhanced keyboard - no help. Without the enhanced keyboard driver it was slightly better. The Numlock state could be changed, but the indicator light did not show the change. The change was displayed when I hit with the mouse the uppper screen edge to temporarily leave the guest maschine for display of the VMware menu. But alle the guest maschines were incredibly slow, no way to work with them. Resizing explorer windows took seconds. I could literally watch the window corner slowly following my mouse, which took 3 to 4 seconds. The systems just did not react as usual. I have enough memory (64 GByte), I have SSD disks, I have 4 3,1 GHz cores, no problems from this side. To continue work I went back to version 15.5.2 build-15785246. Not a one click solution, since the installer does not support downgrade. So uninstall and reinstall. All problems gone with the older version. Now I am waiting for a fix. After upgrading to version 15.5.5 I can no longer change the Numlock state in the guest maschine. The Numlock state change works fine in the host maschine. The guest maschine keeps the Numlock state of the host maschine. So I have to leave the guest maschine, change the Numlock state in the host maschine and the return into the guest maschine. Very cumbersome. Anybody else with his problem? Greetings from Germany, Peter
