Thank you both to Technogeezer and dlhotka. That helps a lot! I have 2 main uses for my VM: Adobe FrameMaker - which I'm guessing could be a problem in Windows 11. It seems like it's the unwanted step-child in the Adobe suite that they're hoping will go away on its own. Solidworks - I'm hoping this is up to date. It's pretty slow on my current machine. I'm convinced that's because our paranoid corporate IT security constantly has updates going on in the background. This helps me understand how to move forward.

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro at work with an Intel i7 processor running macOS Monterey (12.6.2). I use VMWare Fusion 12.2.4 with a virtual machine running Windows 10. I also have a 2021 MacBook Pro with an Apple M1 Pro also running macOS Monterey (12.6.2). I downloaded and installed VMware Fusion Public Tech Preview 22H2 on the new MBP hoping I could just copy my virtual machine from one MBP to the other and have it just work. Most of you are rolling your eyes at this point and as you would expect it gives me the error message, “This virtual machine cannot be powered on because it requires the X86 machine architecture…” Now, I’m not up to date on the differences between ARM-based Apple Silicon and Intel x86 technologies and all the advances that have been made over the years. That’s not where my expertise lies. So can someone “dumb it down” for me and give me a sorta top level understanding of why it doesn’t work to just copy the vm over like that? Also, does this mean I am going to have to reinstall Windows and the apps I use in Windows? Am I right that there will be no shortcut for that? Thank you very much for your patience with my question and your help.
Thanks for your reply. That's pretty much what I'm afraid of. *sigh*
Thanks. As I said, I cannot do an upgrade. The WIN10 VM has to be a new, "fresh" install.

I have a VM running WIN 8 and I need to create one running WIN 10. Can I use the "Migrate your PC…" menu option to move everything on the old VM to the new one so that I won't have to reinstall software? If not, is there a way to do this? I have to create a new VM instead of upgrading because it's a company install and has to have all of the IT Dept's extra stuff in it. Thanks
Thanks!
Do I still need the server version if I own a licensed copy of OS 10.6.8?

I tried the steps in that link. But I still get the error messages.

I have a brand new MacBook Pro running Catalina. I downloaded Fusion for the 30 day free trial. When I set up a virtual machine everything seems to go fine. But when I try to run it, I get an error message (first attachment) that is completely meaningless to me. What the heck is a "Broken pipe"? I click OK and get a 2nd error message (2nd attachment). Can someone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it? Also I notice when Fusion is running, the laptop fan is blowing constantly at top speed. And this is without a virtual machine running since I obviously haven't gotten that far yet. What's going on? Thanks for the help.
Thank you very much for the help!
Will Fusion 11.5 let me create a virtual machine running older versions of Mac OS such as 10.6.8? (I think that might be Snow Leopard.) Thanks
