I've created a gist on Github with a desktop file to replace the launcher for workstation with an updated version that takes care of the steps provided by @pokemogu .

This issue is still ongoing. I have noticed that it consistently happens the first time I boot the Windows Server VM after a host restart. Because its consistent, this should make it easier to troubleshoot. Can someone in VMware please let me know how to get to a solution for this issue? I'll be glad to grab whatever information you need to assist.

After I boot my Windows VM, mouse clicks do not work but keyboard works fine. The only resolution is to reboot the VM and hope that it works afterwards. This issue is intermittent but happens several times a week. Strange thing is that the first mouse click to get to login screen works ok. Can anyone provide me steps to troubleshoot this issue when it occurs? My system is a fully updated Ubuntu 20.04.4 with fully updated VMware Workstation Pro. The guest with the issue is Windows Server 2016 Standard.

I have been experiencing issues with the process `kcompacd0` consuming 100% of resources periodically, stalling the VM and making it unusable for minutes at a time. My host is Ubuntu 20.04.4 on a fully loaded dual socket HP Z840. Workstation Pro version: 16.2.1 build-18811642 . I depend on using VMWare workstation to run my business and cannot have these types of performance issues. I never noticed this problem prior to version 16.0. At version 16.1, I was able to mitigate this by setting `vm.compaction_proactiveness=0` in the VM's vmx file, however it appears that with 16.2, this setting is now ignored. Here is a related thread on unix.StackExchange . I'm almost to the point of abandoning Workstation again and switching back to Virtual Box.

I just upgraded my WS 9 VM to WS 10 and after upgrading, it crashes when I enter unity unity and open windows from the guest. I tried re-installing VMware tools and it did not fix the issue. Several tests confirmed the same result. I was able to work around the issue by disabling Display -> Accelerate 3D Graphics. My environment is as follows: System: Elitebook 8760w OS: OpenSuse 12.3 (fully updated) Display Adapter: AMD FirePro M5950 Display Driver: Up to date AMD drivers for the specific hardware Let me know if debug logs will be helpful

I checked again today, and the issue appears to have been cleared. I am now getting back "There are no software updates available at this time". This is what I would expect. As I did not update my Workstation version and based on my experience, this type of issue was probably a server side issue relating to the update server not responding back to the client software. Can others verify too? Thanks, JsD

I agree that this should be fixed. VMware Workstation is an extremely complex product (as is any virtualization framework) and keeping the software stack up to date is very important to having optimally performing systems. Question: Is this thread enough for VMware folks to act on or should I raise a support issue with them separately? - JsD

Was this something that you guy's released in latest Workstation which I just installed? I am thinking that maybe it was a driver update I did on my Lenovo. Cheers, JsD

Good Day, I use both VMW Workstation on my Corporate Laptop and Fusion on my personal Powerbook. One feature that I depend on while doing programming sessions on my laptop is depending on Trackpad gestures to scroll windows. On Fusion, it works great. Fusion passes the gestures to the Guest just perfectly and seamlessly. However, on Workstation, the Gestures do not translate to the Guest at all. This means that I cannot use Gestures at all on my Corporate WS installation. I know what you are thinking.. Use a mouse. When programming I don't like to use mice. Only at my desktop. I find the Trackpad to be very intuitive and user friendly. Because I use Workstation 98% of the time, this bugs me every day. I was hoping that others would request the same and this would be enabled in WS 7 but looks like it has not yet been added. I know there are issues as Mac OSX Gestures are down at the OS layer and Windows Gestures are at the driver level but that should not inhibit the ability to handle this. Regards, Timothy C.
