Running only one VM on Workstation 15 Player version 15.5.7 on Win10 Pro.   About once every three times I launch the VM, it has no connectivity to the internet. No browsers connect and Command Prompt ping to any www address times out. The host is connected to the router via Ethernet cable and it always retains full connectivity. I haven't pinned down any particular pattern to this failure. The host is usually not heavily loaded The problem usually (but not always) resolves if I shut down the VM and reboot the host. If internet connectivity does not fail when I launch the VM, it stays connected indefinitely (until I shut down the VM). The host has 32GB physical memory, 8 processors, and 250GB SSD. The VM is running Win10 Home and is configured with 8GB memory, 4 processors, and 80 GB storage. Windows updates are current on the host and the VM.   I would appreciate your giving me some troubleshooting ideas. Thank you, Ray
Problem cleared itself after rebooting host. How do I mark this question as Solved? Thank you, Ray

I created a VM running under Player 15 version 15.5.2 build-15785246 about a month ago and have launched it many times with no issues. Today, I see the normal lock screen and am able to log in and run Firefox browser and Command Prompt, but am unable to connect to the internet. Websites time out and Ping in Command Prompt cannot connect to any website. In Windows Settings, I see Not connected - You are not connected to any networks. I ran Troubleshooter on that page and get the following message: plug an Ethernet cable into this computer Needless to say, the host (Win10 Pro) is connecting to the internet with no issues. Please tell me how to repair this network issue with this VM. Thank you, Ray

Hi alank2, I checked a little farther. I see the price for upgrading from v14 to v15 is $149.99. Upgrade to Workstation 15 Pro I don't see any consideration for recent purchases like yours. In my case, such expenses wouldn't be practical because my only use of Player is to experiment safely with registry hacks or new software. It's a sandbox in which I have set some semi-permanent configuration options. I don't need a VM for production work. Sorry I can't be of any help. Ray

Hi alank2, I'm pretty sure VMWare has released Workstation Pro 15 ( Download VMware Workstation Pro ). I saw on another thread some people who were getting the black screen said it cleared when they upgraded to V15. I don't know the cost (if any) to upgrade from V14 to V15. Did you try the VMWare product page? Ray

Hi alank2, This problem was solved for me by Wil at VMware Workstation 14 Player (non - commercial) Black Screen after Win10 1903 Update Summary: Uninstall Player 14. Install free for non-commercial version of Player 15 from Download VMware Workstation Player | VMware My previously inaccessible VM is now working fine. Ray

Hi Wil, The link and procedure you provided worked like a charm! I am very grateful. Different topic: I visited your Vimalin FAQ page at  https://www.vimalin.com/frequently-asked-questions/ I noticed Vimalin does not backup VMWare Player VMs. I would gladly purchase such a product if and when it becomes available. I would also be happy to be a beta tester while it is being developed. Again, thank you for your help. Ray

Hi Wil, Thank you for the reply. I was unaware that a free version of Workstation 15 Player exists. I did download VMware-workstation-full-15.1.0-13591040.exe but I didn't run it because I thought that is the paid workstation. Are you saying I just need to run that file? Or must I "call" it somehow from within my existing 14.1.7 Player? IOW, please tell me how to upgrade to the free Workstation 15 Player without building an all new VM. Regards, Ray

Player version 14.1.7 still needs to be updated. Running 64x Win10 Pro 1903 on host. Formerly healthy 64x Win10 Pro 1809 on guest did automatic update to WU 1903 and, after automatic reboot, the VM shows a completely black screen. I tried all the remedies mentioned above: Updated video drivers, disabled USB connection in guest. Edited relevant line in VMX file to: ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3". Also added a fake floppy drive to guest. Did many reboots of host. Still no joy. Do we know for sure VMWare is working on an update for Player version 14.1.7 to address the problem with WU 1903? Thanks, Ray edited for typo

Black screen remains.           Symptoms are exactly the same as reported at Workstation pro not working on windows 1903 In that case, the user found a temporary work-around by changing network adapter from Bridged to NAT. He also edited line in VMX file to: ethernet0.virtualDev = "vmxnet3" Default is ethernet0.virtualDev = "E1000". I tried these steps but no joy. Player version 14.1.7 was issued before Windows Update 1903 was released to general public. Ultimate fix will be for VMWare to update Player. They already fixed this problem for Pro version 15. While we wait for update to Player, does anyone have a temporary fix? Thank you, Ray

Immediately after installing Win10 1903 Update on my 64x Win10 Pro host and doing the automatic reboot, my VM shows a completely black screen except for the title at the top and the single-line menu bar below the title. I tried fixes other people have reported including updating host video driver and issuing Ctrl + Alt + Del key combo (on the host as well as on the guest) and multiple reboots. No joy. I'm running VMware-player-14.1.7. I notice some other people are reporting that the black screen problem which was caused by the 1903 Windows Update was corrected for users of VMware-workstation-full-15.1.0 but I don't see any solution for Player 14.1.7. Any trouble-shooting ideas or fixes? Thank you for you for help, Ray
