I have discovered that an option has been added into the next version of UTM to utilise this capability - of course I have no idea in what way that is implemented, only that UTM linux arm VM's will utilise this capability to run x86 binaries inside them via rosetta. There are some intriguing possibilities. I think I will go give UTM a spin and see what I can do.

In particular a horrible green drive in the box, but that should be able to do more the 5MB/s or the onboard nic driver. Seems to work OK and intermittently appear to hang, but actually come back after a while. Trying passthrough Nic to see if it makes a difference.
