I have a Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) VM running on a Windows 11 Pro laptop. I set up the host's drives C and D as Shared Folders (mapped to drive Z) on the VM. When I access either drive from Windows 7 File Explorer, there is a couple second delay before the folder opens, noticeably slower than opening a folder on the virtual drive C. Is there a setting I can change to speed up this access? Additional info: I set up a single folder from the host as shared, and the lag is still there. Thanks! Mike B.

Thank you, @hkang and @wtstephens. After much stumbling on my own and using suggestions from other threads, your info, along with another post pointing me to the VMware Tools ISO, allowed me to get Windows 7 Pro installed on Workstation Pro 17. After performing the suggested steps, I had about 5 seconds of panic, when the VMware Tools ISO didn't seem to be recognized. Then, happily, the run dialog popped up. It merely took it a few seconds to automatically start.

This worked for me, too. Thank you! For the sake of others evaluating this ... I have a new Dell XPS laptop with Windows 11 Pro. I had just powered it up for the first time, and Workstation Pro 17.0 was the first app I installed. Initially, I got the error "Compatible Setup – Installer detected the host has Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled." I played with Windows Features settings to no avail, so I went back and enabled the checkbox to install WHP on the host. I then added a VM for Windows 7 Pro. It did not automatically launch the VM, and when I clicked on the Run button, I got the "... failed to connect pipe to virtual machine." Repairing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86) 14.32.313267 did the trick!
