Hello,   I am running Fusion 13 Pro on an M1 Mac mini. I've found this on the VMware website on Nov 21, 2022.    which tells me I should be able to run Windows 10 as a GUEST on in a Fusion VM on an M1 Mac. However, when I try to create the VM with the Windows 10 ISO image, this is displayed. "This virtual machine cannot be powered on because it requires the X86 machine architecture, which is incompatible with this Arm machine architecture host."   These information in the screenshot is contradicting the error message from Fusion. Would someone please explain why I cannot install Windows 10 in the  VM?   Thanks
Can someone provide the technical reason why are 2.6 kernels limited to 8GB VM disks? Thanks

I've just looked in the online Guest OS Installation Guide, and was suprised there is no support for any of the Fedora installations. What is so different about Fedora that it isn't supported? Prior to reading this, I had tried installing it using "Other 2.6 Linux kernel), but resulted in "" An error occurred transferring installable image to your hard drive" I don't know if this is due to the fact it is FC 9 or the fact it is not supported outright (or that my installation DVD is bad)
Thnaks. And when the system is cold booted after the Virtualization feature is enabled, what is the expected result? Is it really noticable?

No, but I will the next time. I agree- Vmware's disk operations take a long time. Installing XP as a guest takes almost twice as long as installing it on the host only. It's probably due to the fact that the VM disk is just a huge file. If I had an external drive, that might speed up some operations, but that's not feasible on a laptop.
It doesn't seem that A 600MB VM sshould take over a minute- espcially on a 2.1Ghz system, with 2Gb of ram. If a VM wasseveral gigabytes, then yes, I could possibly see that.

I don't know. Perhaps the patches provide better support for a distribution, than the plain "Linux 2.6 kernel" selection. Ask yourself this question "Why does VMware provide a 2.6 Linux kernel selection" when creating a VM? Someone who has used a patch should probably add something to this thread.

Workstation 6.04 Host OS, XP, SP2 Guest Fc8 - 6GB virtual disk Host Machine 2 .1 Ghz CPU, 2GB ram, 120 GB hd (not even close to 1/4 full) When I suspend FC8, then restore it, it takes over 1 minute unil the VM is 100% restored. Is this normal for this fast of a machine?
But can I not do that even without the Virtualization feature enabled? My laptop has a Core 2 Duo

My Toshiba Tecra M9 has a Virtualization feature in the BIOS. I've enabled it hoping it would enhance the operations of Worksation 6. My previous laptop was a Tecra M5- also had a similar feature. I had enabled it, and installed Parallels (a competitive product to VMWare)- but Parallels always displays "There is a virtualization feature in the BIOS which is not enabled. Please enable it" VMware workstation never had any problems with that Bios, but I could not run Parallels. Does anyone know what these virtualization features in the BIOS does- for VMWare?

It measn Vmware supports 2.6 based kernels, which is what Fedore is using
I searched the forum and found other people have used Fedora
Yes- I had already looked there before posting the question. Other versions of Fedore are supported even though not listed there as well, which is why I posted the question. ... See more...

Is FC9 supported as a guest under VMware 6?

I've always used the workstation product, but now I'm giving a VM to a co-worker to run with vmplayer. The workstation is a WindowsXP Host and guest, and the player will be on Windows XP as well. When I installed VMplayer, I was instructed to un-install VmWorkstation-Why? Now I have to have a second system just to test the Vms with the player before I give them out. this seems very unproductive and expensive, especially when the product is targeted to reduce computer resources. I can see managers frowning on this already.

Where did LINUX.ISO come from??? Are you even running vmware? What happens when you click on "Install Vmware Tools", from the VM menu?

Thanks Mike. I'm confused- if ubuntu doesn't do rpms, why did vmware dump an rpm when I clicked on install VMware tools? Unfortunately, there is not a directory on my system called ~/vmware-tools-distrib in my ubuntu vm, and I've made sure I've spelled it correctly. There is a directory on the desktop that looks like a DVD icon, called VMWare Tools. Whn I double click on it, I see the rpm and zip files. Maybe this is why 7.10 isn't listed as a compatible guest OS with VMware 6
