Good day.  I believe  I have solved the issue and it does not seem to be related to VMware Workstation. For those that may run across this, you might want to see if your computer / system has 2 integrated video platforms. Mine has Nvidia as well as Intel  ARC graphics.  The idea is  for heavy duty gaming  the system is supposed to use Nvidia and for lighter tasks the system is supposed to use Intel.  It seems when the system is trying to switch to the Intel card the system would freeze.  So far  disabling the Intel ARC  graphics in the  device manager has solved the issue.   I hope this helps people scratching their head as I was.

Running VMWare Workstation Pro 16.2.1.16457 on Windows 11 Pro 21H2 22000.348 I set the file permissions to allow a script to copy my Virtual Machines to a back up location. However, when a VM is launched the "VMX" file permissions  remove all permissions except "Authenticated Users" This is repeatable. The VM  must be launched for this behavior to exhibit.   How do I stop VMWare Workstation from changing the file permissions of my VM's? Thank you for your time.
Confirmed. Issue resolved in latest.

I discovered the answer. It was rather annoying as  I wanted the toolbar drop down so I could update the vmware tools (I usually just right click the tab and choose update VM tools) Unfortunately I have my VM's set to go into full screen on power up I changed that to go to a window on start up. upgraded VMware tools and the issue is gone.

I have recently upgraded to Workstation 12 pro. Since then all my virtual machines are unable to invoke the drop down tool bar when in full screen. I am using a windows 7 ultimate 64bit host with dual screens. I utilize the Workstation on one monitor while leaving the other monitor free (usually to read documentation while I use the VM to test various things) Additionally  Ctrl+Alt+Enter does not drop me back out of Full Screen. Is any one else experiencing this? TIA

Thanks for the reply.  As it turned out I started having difficulty with the Windows 7 VM's as well. I decided to uninstall Workstation. uninstall all the adapters and delete all left over files and registry keys. So far after a reinstall of VM workstation my vista VM's can access the internet as before. I am going to assume something became corrupt in the VM Workstation application or in the Network adapters Cheers

This is a strange one. I am running Workstation 10.0.1 Build 1379776 My Host System is Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (all Available updates) I have a number of VM's that I use for testing. (all the way back to windows 3.1 and forward to 8.1) I use these VM's as a baseline  (I keep them updated) and when I need to test something I make a linked clone and run my tests Today I was going through and running windows update on my VM's and I discovered that my "Vista" VM's cannot get to the internet. (Vista Home Premium, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate) They can "Ping" numeric addresses on the internet but not names (ie  pinging www.yahoo.com does not work and pinging 98.139.180.149 does) Oddly I cannot browse to http://98.139.180.149 either. I can both ping and browse to the addresses in my host Windows 7 machine. My other VM's are working perfectly, Windows 2000, XP, 7, 8 and 8.1 I have tried reinstalling VM tools.  resetting the network adapters. (all my VM's are set for NAT)  and I even tried switching the networking to bridge to see if that had any affect (No). I even went so far as to recreate a new Vista Business VM from scratch. and I have the same issue (so that tells me it isn't a windows update or mis-configured or corrupt networking) I have not updated VMWare recently and the updater says  I have the latest version. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
