Thanks.  Turned out that the virtual CDROM drive with the VMware tools setup executables was E: on my VM not "D:" Anyway, ran the uninstall from E:. But the display driver is still VMware SVGA 3D according to "wmic path win32_VideoController get name" After rebooting it says E: is now the Virtual Printer, so it appears that the VMware tools uninstall ran since the executables are all gone (and there's no other virtual CDROM drive, checked D:, F:, G: etc.) And I'm still getting the black screen after normal login. And still getting the spinning wheel on the menu bar when booted into regular Safe Mode. I'm getting the feeling something is corrupted and I should just create a fresh Windows 10 VM.
I can boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and can enter commands. Entering "wmic path win32_VideoController get name" it responds "VMware SVGA 3D" (though I had 3D disabled in Fusion's Settings... See more...
I can boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and can enter commands. Entering "wmic path win32_VideoController get name" it responds "VMware SVGA 3D" (though I had 3D disabled in Fusion's Settings). So is there a way to uninstall VMware Tools from the CMD line or change the display driver to the standard MS VGA driver? "regedit" also runs, so I can edit the Registry if that helps.  But nothing happens with "devmgmt.msc" so can't run Device Manager.

MacOS 11.4 Fusion 12.1.2 Windows build 19041.vb_release.191206-1406 This is a continuation of my problems here: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/Can-t-boot-into-Windows-10-Safe-Mode-F8-brings-up-Boot-Manager/m-p/2835707#M173121 Tried the latest Windows feature update again, got the same problem, the login screen comes up OK, but after login get a black screen. This time after booting into Safe Mode, to try to change the driver for the VGA card to the standard MS VGA Driver (and then uninstall VMware Tools, and install latest VMware tools - though I thought I already had the latest) it appears to come up but when I move the mouse over the Windows menu bar I just get a spinning wheel, so cannot open Device Manager. Eventually after clicking a few times, a window comes up that says "Microsoft Windows - The application is not responding....Do you want to end this process" and the black screen (other than the menu bar) turns gray. Getting really frustrated with this, seems I'm never going to be able to update Windows and the only choice will be to create a fresh VM with fresh Windows 10 install and then restore my backed up data, and re-install all my apps. Any ideas?

@BMunn205 I've been getting "quality updates" to the version I was on.  But have still not done the Feature update to 20H2.  Just checking Windows Update and it says "Your version of Windows 10 will stop receiving important quality updates soon.  You can stay in support by updating to a newer version of Windows 10."  This is underneath the section on "Feature Update to Windows 10, version 20H2". So it sounds like I am going to be forced to try it again soon.

Thanks @scott28tt  Coincidentally I had just found that same site myself here this evening, and had just succesfully used method 1 described there to get to Safe Mode. Though unfortunately getting to Safe Mode didn't solve my problem with the black screen after logging in.  Still get the black screen, both in Safe Mode and also low resolution video mode.  Safe Mode with Command Prompt does display, though not sure if anything can be done from there to fix the main problem. Anyway, instead in Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options, that you go through to get to Safe Mode from the link, there is also an option to Uninstall Updates, so I used that to roll back the latest Windows feature update.  I now have Windows displaying and working properly again after I login.  I think the feature update that causes the black screen problem to appear, is version 20H2, which it seems is a new version of Windows.  So now I'm not sure how I'll ever get that version installed and working.  Maybe something to do with VMWare Tools?  I'll post a separate topic about that tomorrow.

MacOS 10.15.7 Fusion 11.5.7 Just did the latest Windows 10 Update (which itself took several attempts) Login screen comes up, but after logging in the window goes black In searching for solutions to this, seems it may be due to the Windows display driver, and need to change it to standard MS VGA driver in Device Manager, and also to uninstall VMWare Tools and install the latest version of VMWare Tools. To change the display driver, you need to boot into Safe Mode. However, when I hit F8, it brings up this Boot Manager below, with no option for Safe Mode. Any idea how to get to Safe Mode?  I've tried hitting F8 again after selecting either "Boot normally" or "Windows Boot Manager", but just does a full boot.
Hi jcui0122, Any ideas on this based on the log file I posted above? Thanks, Kevin

Hi jcui0122, Yes, your steps are correct. One other thing I just noticed.  In order for Cmd+Tab to fail from the WinXP VM window, the white arrow mouse pointer has to be active in WinXP.  If I swipe in to the WinXP window I initially get a fist pointer, then Cmd+Tab works OK.  As soon as I move the mouse, or one click on the touchpad, the fist changes to an arrow, and then Cmd+Tab stops working. Attaching the log file.

Fusion 6.04, OSX 10.9.4, WinXP Command-Tab not working properly for application switch in Full Screen mode. If the VMware Fusion Preferences window is open it works properly. If I swipe right from Full Screen to my main OSX space then swipe left to the Fusion space then Command-Tab works once, but doesn't work second time if I Command-Tab back to the Fusion space. This is on a brand new MacBook Pro 15" after upgrading from a 2010 MBP, and I restored everything to the new MBP from a Time Machine backup.  Used to work fine on the old machine, and I have made no changes to any settings on the new machine as far as I am aware. Note that when it doesn't work, the Command-Tab cycles the focus on the open apps & folders on the Windows Task Bar, but without actually switching apps. MacOS KeyBoard Shortcuts is enabled in Fusion Preferences. I've tried changing the mapping of the Command Key to the Windows Key, none of the settings make any difference to the above behavior.
