That was more than 10 years ago. I think either it wasn't often used, so it didn't justify the effort. Or since 2006/2007, the VMware ecosystem has grown massively. Today you could build dozens of LAMP appliances to suit everyone. Ubuntu alone has 3 current versions out there and the Linux distributions are getting more and more. Furthermore, the trend for such "encapsulated" applications is more towards containers and these are universally applicable and do not have to be maintained by this community. But maybe there are other reasons I just don't think about.

VMware Product Interoperability Matrices: VMware Product Interoperability Matrices vCenter Server version 6.5. supports ESXi 5.5
Dear all, I would like to dowload the vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 trial, but the download page shows only version 6.5. How can I download the 5.5. trial? Thank you. Mi Ro
Hi I need solution how to upload Browser-Appliance-45.2 to ESX 6.5 host using vCenter. I can't do that using OVA upload Regards SLawek
Unfortunately that is not the right answer . What you can do is download 7-zip , extract all the files with the exception of the .cer and then import the 3 remaining files as you deploy .
Rather than shouting in all caps, how about post some useful information which we can use to help you?
What is VMWARE trying to do  here ? I download a fresh VDP OVA and can not install because of an EMC certificate error . HOW DO I GET AROUND THIS ?
I got a call from VMWare, they said you cannot rename the appliance suffix, this is considered as renaming the appliance, which is not supported.

I've been playing with  /usr/lib/vmware-vmca/bin/certificate-manager and was not able to fix this issue when trying to login into my vcenter. Let me describe it a little bit further: I have an SSO Appliance and a Virtual Center Server (Running on Nutanix although not relevant). And we are decommissioning a Windows domain, so I changed the DNS settings and machines suffixes and configured authentication towards the new domain. Authentication using the new domain was working fine but when checking the SSL certificate via browser I could see it was using the previous FQDN so I played with the certificate-manager and ended up screwing things as you can see. I've tried option 2,4,8 (and of course I didn't take a snapshot) although if needed I can probably restore from Nutanix, this is the DR site so I don't have VMs here (besides those two appliances). Version is 6.0.0.30200 SSO old name = srv-adl-usr-vsso.OldWinDomain.local SSO new name = srv-adl-usr-vsso.NewWinDomain.local VCenter old name =srv-adl-usr-vcs.OldWinDomain.local VCenter new name =srv-adl-usr-vcs.NewWinDomain.local On /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log I can see those error messages Caused by: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: No subject alternative DNS name matching srv-adl-usr-vsso.OldWinDomain.local found. Caused by: java.security.cert.CertificateException: No subject alternative DNS name matching srv-adl-usr-vsso.OldWinDomain.local found. Caused by: com.vmware.vim.sso.client.exception.ServerCommunicationException: Error communicating to the remote server https://srv-adl-usr-vsso.OldWinDomain.local/sts/STSService/vsphere.local I can ping the server using the new FQDN though. Thoughts?

Hello, Last night during the cloning of a vm 9TB between two datastores, the vCenter file system is corrupt. I'm just the lucky guy? It 'happened to someone? How it is that possible? Thank you

The solution is to include the "--powerOn" switch in the command In my lab I did not want the appliance to automatically boot, because I wanted to reduce the amount of RAM to 8GB before I powered it on. The correct approach in a lab environment would be to let the appliance boot using the "--powerOn" switch in the command and then power it off once it has booted up for the first time. Next, power the appliance off and reduce the amount of RAM, and then power it back on.

Hi! This puzzles me.. I have previously been able to deploy my NSX Manager Appliance without any problems.. The command below successfully deploys the NSX Manager appliance. However, the appliance is not able to set the passwords and IP. When the appliance boots for the first time I have to log in with the default username and password. Next, I have to run the "setup" command to set the IP address. What could be wrong? Is there something missing in the deployment command? I can successfully resolve the hostname of the appliance from the ESXi hosts, PSC and VCS. I am also able to ping between all of them. The exception is the NSX appliance. I am only able to get a successful ping reply after I run the setup command, and reboot the appliance. ./tools/ovftool/ovftool --acceptAllEulas --allowExtraConfig --prop:vsm_cli_passwd_0=XxXXxxX!01 --prop:vsm_cli_en_passwd_0=XXXxxxXX!01 --prop:vsm_hostname=mgmt-nsxm.z01.virtlab.local --prop:vsm_ip_0=172.31.10.18 --prop:vsm_netmask_0=255.255.0.0 --prop:vsm_gateway_0=172.31.0.1 --prop:vsm_dns1_0=172.31.0.2 --prop:vsm_domain_0=z01.virtlab.local --prop:vsm_ntp_0=172.31.0.2 --prop:vsm_isSSHEnabled=False -ds=ds01-mgmt-c01h02 -n=vs_mgmt_nsxm --network=temp_NSX ../05_Repo/VMware-NSX-Manager-6.2.1-3300239.ova vi://172.31.10.10/mgmt-sddc/host/mgmt-c01/mgmt-c01h02.z01.virtlab.local/ Opening OVA source: ../05_Repo/VMware-NSX-Manager-6.2.1-3300239.ova The manifest validates Source is signed and the certificate validates Enter login information for target vi://172.31.10.10/ Username: administrator@virtlab.local Password: *********** Opening VI target: vi://administrator%40virtlab.local@172.31.10.10:443/mgmt-sddc/host/mgmt-c01/mgmt-c01h02.z01.virtlab.local/ Deploying to VI: vi://administrator%40virtlab.local@172.31.10.10:443/mgmt-sddc/host/mgmt-c01/mgmt-c01h02.z01.virtlab.local/ Transfer Completed                Warning: - ExtraConfig option 'keyboard.typematicMinDelay' is not allowed, will skip it. - ExtraConfig options exists in source. hi all we have here a UDA Appliance, what we normal take for PXE Booting Linux Systems and also the HP SPP Packs. Now we want try it also for install ESXi6. But i get now the error: failed to load COM32 file esx6.ESXi6.mboot.c32! have someone a idea what that can be? I have installed also the latest patch 2.0.26 but no chance to get working it! da ich mir nicht sicher bin, ob ich hier im deutschen forum bin: wir haben hier eine UDA Appliance die bislang sehr gut funktioniert. wir deployen oracle linux, knoppix, und HP SPP Packs darüber, nun wollen wir auch ESXi6 darüber installieren, aber das Teil kommt nach der Auswahl an diesem Fehler nicht vorbei: failed to load COM32 file esx6.ESXi6.mboot.c32! jemand eine idee wie ich die appliance dazu bewegen kann, das ESXi richtig zu booten? gruss frank
