I took the class in person but I'm assuming it'll be simular with the lab setups. They had us connect somewhere, then iLo into the hosts to do work on them. I imagine it'll be along the same lines as that. Also we didn't have any homework. But then again don't take those as solid answers, as this was over a year ago and when I attended the class in person.

I have found VMware education to be quite responsive - but to answer your question the online Install and Configure class is just like the public classroom classes - prior to class you should be an experienced IT professional with experience working with server and server operating systems - there is no need for any prior virtualization experience but it is helpful. The course material is laid out very well and builds upon itself from module. There is no real homework assigned to be outside of class since the labs are performed during the class but it would be beneficial to review the days lesson as typically they are build upon in the following day.
The labs are done during class time but you can access the lab environments during the week outside of class -

Thank you everyone, this is what I needed to know.
I have to prepare for a verrrrrrry busy 4 days, it seems.
I have a CBT that I can use in addition to taking the class.
I imagine the labs being part of the week's activity depends on the class and the instructor etc.
I will also assume the labs are only accessible during the one training week during which one is registerd.
Thank you, Tom

The CBT should help you out quite a bit, a friend let me watch his before I took the class and I felt I was a step ahead of most because I was familiar with the terms and the concepts which allowed me to understand things a bit more in depth

As kyle pointed out the CBT will introduce you to the terms which will be a big help - the labs will be part of the weeks activities independent of the instructor because it is part of the class delivery. You are also correct that labs will only be accessable during the week of training becasue every weekend they get rebuilt for the following weeks of classes -
