Printers connected through UEM randomly fail

Hi all,

At a customer site I have created several printers policies in UEM to connect printers based on subnet location.

Randomly, printers are not created.

The Customer has Horizon 7.0.2 and UEM 9.1.0.

Do you know if there are known issues with UEM and printers mapping?

We have tried to disable printers deletion at logoff but printers are not visible either.

Same issue with default printer chosen by end users, they are not retained between sessions.

Thanks

Probably ThinPrint interfering.

Have you seen this KB?

Hi,

Yes I have disabled ThinPrint redirection and default printers are retained between sessions now.

But I have still an issue with printers connection at login which randomly fail to show in printers manager. In FlexEngine Async log I see informations saying that UEM took several times to map the printers, and waited 4500 ms for example.

A manual refresh of UEM environment in the session reconnects properly every printers. Is it possible to increase UEM timeout at logon?

Maybe you can try this: VMware User Environment Manager 8.6 Release Notes

Workaround: This workaround applies to Horizon View 5.x and 6.x. Set the printer mapping to occur later during the log in process. Complete the following steps.

  1. Start the VMware User Environment Manager - Management Console and select the User Environment tab.
  2. Select Shortcuts and click Create to create a new shortcut.
  3. Complete the following shortcut information.
    • Name: User Environment Refresh at Startup
    • Target: C:\Program Files\Immidio\Flex Profiles\FlexEngine.exe
    • Arguments: -uemrefresh -uemrefreshwait
    • Destination: select Programs folder and enter Startup
    • Do NOT select Run asynchronously
    • Click Save to create the shortcut.

Hi Arno_apx

We have encountered the same problem. Our workaround is simple. We have created a run key like this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

"UEMRefresh"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Immidio\\Flex Profiles\\FlexEngine.exe\" -UemRefresh"

After the additional refresh of UEM when the desktop is loaded, the printers are nearly 100% mapped and the default printer is set correctly.

Regards,

Tschuegy
