We're running vmware workstation pro 16

A linked VM which has it's own vmdk independent-nonpersistent (windows10 guest)

is producing huge redo logs. (Base VM 32G win10basisvm | linked clone 39G visualstudio2019)

20G /media/data/Daten/.vms/visualstudio2019/ produces a 20g redo log just idling.

I can't see any I/O that would be even close to 20g

Why would the redo log of a lidling VM be that huge after a few min?
