Workstation 15 Pro (15.5.2) Not Working in Ubuntu 20.04 (Kernel 5.8-Segmentaion Fault)

Hi,

Workstation is not opening up and in console it says the following error. Need suggestions to fix this.

"/usr/bin/vmware: line 105: 3355 Segmentation fault".

This is a known problem of 15.5.6 when running on a system with kernel 5.8 or newer, IIRC a bug in /proc/version parser. You can use one of the workarounds mentioned in

but you would also need to patch the modules for Workstation 15.5.6 or 15.5.7 to actually work on such system. Another option is an upgrade to 16.1.0 which should work OK with anything up to 5.11-rc4. As the 15.5.x series is apparently out of support already, it doesn't seem likely that VMware will ever fix this.

Hi,

We have installed VM player 15.5 on Ubuntu 20.04. We tried to open the application, and it is showing installed successfully in the terminal but we are unable to lunch the application. Can you give the procedure for VMware 15.5 on Ubuntu 20.04? and we are using kernel version 5.15. Will it support or not?
