Hi,
This can be a confusing error at times.
If your VM has a virtual disk made up of disk slices then it will give this same error too if one of the slices is missing.
If the backup had snapshots then it might even be a file missing in the snapshot chain.
Usually it helps if you attach the vmware.log file to a reply here in order to find out exactly what file is missing.
