hi,
I'm going through the steps of a automated desktop pool, but when i get to the step for active directory or domain it doesnt show up on the drop down at the top.
my vcenter isn't connected to the domain don't know if that's the issue. as vcenter wont let me join it to the domain as its homelab.local it shows an error that it cant include localhost etc

Hi,
vCenter does NOT need to be AD join. Horizon Windows server has to be.
If you are trying to create an Instant Clones pool, then you need to configure the Instant clone administrator first:

If I understand well, yes:
You can use the Machines on demand functionality in the Pool settings:
Specify whether to provision all desktop VMs when the pool is created or to provision the VMs when they are needed.
- Machines on demand. When the pool is created, Horizon 8 creates the number of VMs based on the Min number of machines value or the Number of spare (powered on) machines value, whichever is higher. Additional VMs are created to maintain this minimum number of available VMs as more users connect to desktops. This provides dynamic pool expansion capability where the size of the pool expands and contracts to accommodate the number of users who need desktops.

thank u, i have the correct settings, just testing it out on how it works in my home-lab. pretty cool the way they make it function and what it does pretty impressive who ever thinks of these ideas and implements them into software.
Q: Do you know the best way to keep all the desktops updated say a new version comes out 2404 agent can you update the template vm you made and re take the snapshot and then does it roll out the updated snapshot orr?

Yes, that is the process, you can do it without service interruption as it wait for user logoff to update the clones
