Horizon View - VDI start menu is disabled on second logon.

Hi, I'm working on my VDI desktop, using UEM 9.1 for management of these desktops.

We are running the following:

Horizon client 4.3

Horizon Agent 7.0.2

Windows 10

Mandatory Profiles which is storet on UEM-Profiles

When my testusers is logged on for its first time and his profile is generated on the UEM-Profiles share, all of my shortcuts are clickable and Excel starts (my mouse pointer hoover and enlight the icon) and tiles are visible:

When i log out of windows 10, and in again with the same user(that now has a profile build in the UEM-Profiles share, my starmenu is almost disabled and tiles are not visible:

Here is my mouse pointer again hoovering over Excel, but it is not enlightning, and its impossible to start Excel. All icons on my startmenu is now disabled except from Search.

I can start Excel from desktop icon that i provided, but it will be a bit of a mess if we have to deploy all shortcuts to the dekstop.

I tried to force these tiles to be visible by creating a policy for STD users with this config: http://phramc.com/wordpress/?p=5 ‌with no luck.

Anyone seen this issue?

EDIT: -if i kill explorer in task manager and start it up again, i can hoover and click on the icons...

We are having the same issue using Windows 10 (1607) - Horizon View 7.0.3, UEM 9.1 and instant clones. Start menu launches but, icons do not highlight and cannot click them to launch. Really need a solution here.

OK!!!

Icorriero - Try to disable ManagementConsole\Personalization\windows settins\Windows Explorer

Log on to aVDI, and your start menu should work.

I beleive that there is a conflict between registry settings in Windows Explorer and your policy that makes this issue.

I have created a ADMX based setting where i point to a default startmenu layout i created: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/541280?start=0&tstart=0

So now i next issue is that it takes like 2-3 seconds when i click on start button, until the startmenu appears.

This is a known little problem, which is also described in this blogpost: Managing Windows 10 with VMware User Environment Manager - VMware Blogs

Here is how to solve it:

Add an Exclusion to Windows Explorer.INI:

Add the following exclusion to the UEM template ‘Windows Explorer’. This exclusion prevents the Start Menu icons from appearing blank or disappearing.

[ExcludeIndividualRegistryValues]
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\StartMenuInit
