VDI XP desktop network adapter unplugged

I'm currently in the testing phase of configuring VDI and am running into a stumbling block.

If I create a Desktop through VDM Administrator with no customization template, everything seems ok, but of course have to manually add each image to the domain after it's provisioned. If I create a Desktop using a Guest Customization (created through VIC), my virtual network adapter comes up and shows that it's unplugged on each VM. Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Hi there,

some questions to qualify your issue ...

How did you configure the network adapter in the template?

Did you bind it to a virtual network?

Did you check the sysprep tools on the VC?

Is the customizing process working without issues?

How did you configure the network settings in the customization specification? DHCP? Static?

Thanks,

Christoph

In the template, the VM originally had a static IP address, but I have since created another new template (from the original) that uses DHCP - however it does have a statically assigned DNS server. Everything else in the template is whatever is defaulted by VM Tools.

I did not sysprep my template because I thought the Guest Customization script would handle all that type of stuff. I did have to manually put the XP SP2 deployment tools in my VC.

I'm attaching the guestcust.log file so you can see the errors.

I may have found the culprit, but not a solution yet. The image I am deploying from has a second virtual adapter for the Cisco VPN client. If I uninstall the VPN client software, everything works fine. So I tried to add a second NIC to the customization settings but I always get the error "failed to deploy template: fault.NicSettingMismatch.summary" when I try to deploy.

Any thoughts?

I am haivng the same problem. I create a VM including the Cisco VPN client software - works fine. Convert to template, then create new VM from template - the network card is shown as " network cable unplugged". I cannot get it to "reconnect".

I ended up having to take the Cisco client out of my deployment image.
