Newbie question: how do I capture mouse and keyboard inside the VM?

I have a macOS Ventura host running a Debian Linux guest with vmware fusion 13. I'd like to "capture" the keyboard (and mouse) so that things like "Command-Tab" do what you'd expect in Linux. Right now, "Command-Tab" brings up the switcher from macOS instead the Linux one.

I tried this: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Fusion/13/com.vmware.fusion.using.doc/GUID-8905F215-ED84-4C5D-80A9...

However, pressing Cmd+G does not seem to do anything. Is this a bug, or am I missing something, or something else?

You may wish to go to the menu bar, then VMware Fusion > Settings. >  Keyboard & Mouse

Then click the Mac Host shortcuts tab, and unselect "Enable Mac OS Host Keyboard Shortcuts". See if that  works any better for you.

(the downside of that setting is that some Mac keyboard shortcuts won't be available when keyboard focus is with the VM).
