What Mac are you running (Intel/M1/M2)?

What build of Windows 11?

I'm running Windows 11 ARM 22621.2361 (release channel build) on Fusion 2023 Tech Preview/3d acceleration enabled or disabled/Sonoma. No problems here with Edge

Also checked on a Windows 11 ARM Insider Preview Beta Channel release (build 22631.2338) and no problems here with Edge either.

I have a Win 11 Intel VM on a mac running the Tech Preview and Monterey. I'll see if I can reproduce it there after upgrading it to the latest update (haven't fire that one up for a while).

Also, did you try this on a newly created user account on your VM? Trying to see if it's something associated with the username you're logging in with (in which case, that's a windows issue).

M1, Windows 11 ARM (release channel build) on Fusion 2023 Tech Preview/3d acceleration enabled (disabled also no effect). The same is on insiders preview (1st vm). Release channel (clean instal) was made according to your super instruction cons. Tech preview (good job thank you btw)

so it must be something else it means… creating new user account is the same effect, something is blocking Edge (but only edge, chromium/chrome/firefox are working like a charm )

I have Edge set as my default browser.

Have you tried to repair the Edge installation:

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify, then select to repair Microsoft Edge.

Yes, I did it several times definitely. Also over-installed downloaded here (ARM64 ver): https://www.microsoft.com/pl-pl/edge/business/download?form=MA13H4

(there is no possibility to uninstall, only repair or over-install)

Which language of Windows 11ARM are you using? I’d like to see if  can reproduce it.

Hi,

Error 0xC0000AA is "Requested resource is in use".
It's a bit of a weird error.

Also to make sure, can you open page: "edge://settings/system" ?

If so, what happens if you disable option "Use hardware acceleration if available" ?
I would expect Google Chrome to have the same issue then.

Although the error seems to indicate something else.. perhaps a broken profile... or an antivirus product keeping a file locked that MS Edge needs or...

Another thing to try is to run: edge://settings/reset

or even "Clear browser data" from edge://settings/privacy

Trying open page: "edge://settings/system" I have to kill edge proces (tree) in task manager. It works the 2nd, 3rd sometimes 4th time I can display settings. Acceleration doesn’t matter if is on or off. Antivirus I would exclude form suspect, we have some PCs also with win11 and the same configuration (eset ERA managing centrally with the same configuration implemented) - on PCs edge is working properly. But in fact on the very early stage (once after win11 fresh installation on vm) I was able to run ms edge. Then I always installing other apps and in particular moment I saw edge stuck. Maybe VMware tools impact ?
note the same is on 2 vms, one is insider ver 2nd with official release

Hi,

I don't think VMware tools will matter.. it does install the graphics driver, but beyond that I'm failing to see what it matters. Clipboard access? Unlikely I'd say.
There might be additional hints in the MS Eventlog viewer about MS Edge.

A browser component based on MS Edge (WebView2) is nowadays used in a lot of software, so it is pretty important to have MS Edge working OK.

Another thing you might try is to see if any of the (many) command line switches help for isolating the issue:

Installing Edge, Chromium, and Chrome together on the same system is redundant. Edge is based on Chromium, as is Chrome. So essentially with Edge you get Chrome without the Google "value add" or spyware/cruft (depending on your point of view).

With the 2023 Tech Prevew on my M1 Mac mini,  I just installed a brand new VM with the pl-pl ISO. During the installation I used the hack so that I could use a local account and install without a network. Edge came up fine but complained that it couldn't connect to the Internet (which is expected since there is no network).

I then installed VMware Tools. After reboot, Edge connects to the Internet well.

I am finding something interesting while trying to install Chrome. When running the Polish operating system configured for the Polish region, Google is offering to install a Windows 10, 32-bit version of Chrome. On English versions of Windows 11 ARM with region set to English, it's offering to download a Windows 11 64-bit version.

I don't know if this could be part of the problem, but as @wila states, I'd definitely see if there's some kind of bad interaction between what you have installed.

One other thing... did you download the Xbox app from the Microsoft store? There's a known issue with having that app installed on Windows 11 ARM. It causes software updates to fail.

@Technogeezer and @wila thank you, I can see that I can run edge normally for a moment before credential manager starts running. It means it is not connected with vm directly. Problem is not solved I see that ā€žLSA is not signed properlyā€ (event manager), but at the moment I surrender :smiling_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@Technogeezer btw, outlook-search issue: the only working solution was… to install 64bit version of the office. Outlook is still not on the list of windows search but searching is working using windows search

Another thought from reading through some Microsoft articles: Is Secure Boot enabled in the VM's settings?

Hi,

Ok.
I do a lot with the WebView2 component as a software developer. So your issue certainly has my interest as  it shares the majority part of its code base with MS Edge.
What I would do if I was in your shoes is to explore the logging options from the command line list from the link I shared earlier. Then search the log file for when your error happens.

It is interesting that it appears to work as long as credential manager isn't running. But I would imagine that MS Edge just uses the normal Windows CredRead/CredWrite API calls in order to read/write from the credential manager. AFAICT that should not result in the error you've been seeing. I would also expect Google Chrome to trigger a similar error then (Firefox doesn't use credential manager)
