Do the upgrade by downloading the .iso using the download app from here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

(Why you need to download an app to yet again download an iso is

beyond me, but it is Microsoft after all.)

Make sure that you select Windows10 (not any of the others).  Also, make sure all

updates have been made to your Windows7 VM.

FWIW, yesterday I upgraded a Win7 Pro VM to Win10 Pro without any issues.  Be sure that

after the installation is complete to shut down Windows, change the VM type to Win10 and

then re-install VMWare Tools.
