VMWare Fusion 7: Boot Camp drivers necessary?
Hi, I am getting ready to purchase Fusion (I'm a Parallels refugee -- can't handle their archaic licensing policy any longer) and could use a couple of definitive answers which I cannot find after a while searching, here and generally online.
- Do I need to install the Boot Camp drivers, and which ones? There's a KB article about this, but it's really not obvious if it's actually necessary. I'm on a Macbook Pro Retina 15" with Apple SSD and german keyboard. So far everything seems to be working fine (incl the keyboard), but I'm seeing some weird driver stuff in the taskbar (see attached image), like the HD, network interface, etc.
- The VM does not appear to notice that the host is running from an SSD. Should it? I tried messing with the .vmx file as suggested (scsi0:1.virtualSSD=1), but it didn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks
Jeremy

Hi,
No need to install bootcamp drivers. You only need those if you are directly accessing the apple hardware, like as when you are running bootcamp.
The "weird driver stuff" is normal.
re. SSD, not required. It depends on the guest OS used if it would actually do something with that information.
